UPDATED: Police have this evening (Saturday) launched an appeal for information as to the whereabouts of a missing Island man.
Julian Turrill, 54, has gone missing from Freshwater, sparking concerns for his welfare.
The alarm was raised when he did not turn up for work as scheduled at midday today. His family are very concerned about this out-of-character event.
Mr Turrill is described as white with light coloured, thinning hair. He is approximately 6ft tall and of thin build.
A Wight Cycle Hire mountain bike being used by Julian was found on the cliff edge of Tennyson Down approximately half way between Freshwater Bay and the Tennyson monument, as previously reported by Island Echo. The bike was handed into the Wight Cycle Hire shop on Station Road, Yarmouth by a member of the public at around 09:00 this morning.
Police, HM Coastguard, Freshwater Lifeboat, Hampshire Marine Unit and the National Police Air Support helicopter from Bournemouth have all been involved in the search.
Police are also appealing for the member of the public to come forward as they may have further important information that could give an insight into Mr Turrill’s movements, whereabouts and intentions.
