As exclusively revealed by Island Echo back in January of this year, the national hotel chain Premier Inn are set to build on land at Merrie Gardens, Lake to form a brand new 80-bedroom hotel with associated parking and landscaping.
Diggers have moved onto the site to remove top soil following the approval of planning permission by the Isle of Wight Council Planning Department at the end of September.
The new development, which will be the company’s second hotel on the Isle of Wight, will help to generate additional business activity in the local area as customers eat and drink locally and make use of facilities in the nearby towns of Sandown and Shanklin.
There will be 80 car parking spaces and 16 cycle spaces and the hotel will employ 18 full-time staff members and 6 part-time.
The hotel will boast an additional 12 bedrooms compared to the existing Premier Inn at Seaclose in Newport, which will remain open.
