Hampshire Constabulary is appealing for information following a serious road traffic collision that occurred on Briddlesford Road, near Newport this evening (Thursday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police were called to Briddlesford Road with the junction of Blacklands Lane at 17:45 following reports that a BMW and a Vauxhall Astra had collided.
The driver of the Astra has since been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries, prompting a full scale investigation to be launched.
2 occupants of the BMW – who fled the scene on foot – are outstanding at present.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We would like to speak with these two men as soon as possible as we are concerned they could be injured, and would like them to assist our enquiries into this collision.
“If you were in the BMW, or you know the occupants, please call us.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 704 of today’s date.

Why don’t the police give the BMW’s registration then perhaps someone could help find the occupants
If there is a need to know who was driving, or owns, the BMW don’t blank out the number plate
DNA possibly from the BMW? Individuals may have been picked up before if stolen the car? Also, any CCTV in the buildings surrounding and where is the nearest town, entrances, cameras etc? Simple stuff?
“Also, any CCTV in the buildings surrounding and where is the nearest town, entrances, cameras etc”
you obviously have no idea where this happened !!
what Jim is saying is that the car has probibly passed through a town and cctv cameras at some point and the reg could come up on these and possibly show the drivers face
Is that really Briddlesford Road ? I don’t recognise the scenery…or the houses..
yeah, the photo is taken just before the blacklands lane junction (police car blocks the view of it) facing north towards briddlesford farm (the buildings in the distance are the farm / farm shop)
Thanks Daemy
Using a very long-focus lens. It fore-shortens the view, bringing everything closer together. It does change the view. Very confusing, but ‘they’ probably wouldn’t let him get any closer.
This is the car that sped through the crossing outside the hospital when it was on red yesterday as kids were preparing to cross. Two lads, short hair late teens early twenties and a blond girl in the passenger seat. Presume they pulled out of the hospital. Got a good look at the girl. Was trying to get level with the driver to give him some stick but they got ahead. It was about 15.05. I would definitely recognise the girl again!
Pass that on to the police glenn
If that was definitely the car….. AND they came from the hospital, there will be CCTV. As MIndy says, inform the police…
