Island Roads have been left red-faced after its contractors painted new white lines on Middle Road in the wrong place – for over a mile. Middle Road was recently given a fresh new surface when Island Roads carried out its surface dressing treatment on stretches between Carisbrooke and Chessell. Contractors were then brought in to paint fresh new white lines down the middle of the carriageway, helping to keep motorists in the correct road position. However, rather embarrassingly, for a mile-long stretch between Calbourne Water Mill and Chessell Pottery (as was), the lines were painted in the wrong place. Realising the mistake, the incorrect lines have since been blacked out but they are still visible, especially in the sunshine. It’s thought that they cannot be blasted off the road in the normal way amid fears of damaging the new surface dressing. Fresh white lines have since been laid down – presumably in the correct place. But it’s noted they appear wider than normal… A spokesperson for Island Roads has said:
“The lining of a recently resurfaced section of the Middle Road was not to the required standard and we immediately instructed the contractor responsible to take remedial action. “We are very disappointed at the service provided and have made our feelings known to the contractor. All the remedial work will be undertaken at no additional cost to the council-tax payer”.
Island Roads criticising another contractor, priceless! Rather like the pot calling the kettle black.
Ridiculous that Island Roads was set up to stop bent people on the council handing jobs to their mates at extortionate rates. We were told that Island Roads would do all of the work and save us money but they are employing contractors to do work, presumably someone’s mates. Just close down Island Roads and put some robust systems in place so the council cannot fleece us.
Nobody will notice, many ignore them anyway.
How did they mess that up so spectacularly… when there are Cats Eyes in the road. Must have used the same contractors that are digging up the pavements for all this fibre stuff.
White lines were correct but cat’s eyes wrong ?.
That new surface is worse than driving on gravel! Most roads in Iraq are smoother
I agree. Perhaps it’s the council’s plan to force cyclists off the road because it’s horrible to ride on.
Island Toads need to employ staff from the mainland who know what they are doing.
The Caulkhead Numpty’s they employ are thick as ****
It was an IOW firm that did the work.
Hence my point.
Work carried out by Island idiots
How often does THAT happen!?
It would be intriguing to know what led to this.
Perhaps breath tests now in order before embarking on such work!
Another dangerous road for motorcycles. This nothing more than a cheap quick fix, that stays dangerous for its whole life. How long before a bike crash, that I’m sure most people on here will blame excess speed or an idiot bike rider? I’d rather dodge potholes, than hit big patches of chippings.
Motorcyclists seem to be able to crash withourt any help from the road surface.
So Island Roads are not the only cowboys operating on
our Islands roads.
Island Roads have competition.
“Specsavers will be busy”
so is it between carisbrooke and chessell or calbourne and chessell as they are two different sections of the road?
Try reading the article.
If drivers/riders need a middle of the road marker to know there position on the road, they should be drivers/riders
Most staff of Island Roads couldn’t recite the alphabet properly so this should be no surprise. If they stopped employing half-wits they might actually make some progress. I suggest that during interviews, they should ask candidates to tie a shoelace correctly in an attempt to set new higher standards…….
That’s what happens when you employ cheap foreign labour.
They are actually dopey Caulkheads who are mainly working for
Island Toads
At least residents of the mainland can type without incorrect spacing.
Not Island Roads staff…..contractors
Not the usual ‘white lines’ island roads managers are used to!
‘Should have gone to Specsavers’
Why do We only have one Contractor like Island Roads on Isle of Wight.
I would have thought Highways would be here as well.
As They are running the roads in Hampshire and national.
It was an island firm who did the painting.
island drivers don’t know what the lines are for anyway
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, sounds about right. Our little tiny island and island toads still can’t get it right. Just gets better every day
FFS!! 😮
Can Island Roads do anything right?
Don’t get me started
They are good at the following
Doing Fcuk all
Smoking and Vaping in vehicles
Farting in vehicles
Eating and drinking in vehicles
Looking at magazines in vehicles
Texting in vehicles
and sitting overlooking the sea
Work output is shite, excellent wages.
Why does this not surprise anyone that has to suffer from the work these morons do? Alum Bay New Road was meant to be closed for a few weeks, that ended up being over a month. Copse Lane in Freshwater was meant to be a few weeks at the und of May – it’s still closed and probably won’t be open until the end of July! They surface dress the Undercliff at Niton – a road hardly used and now this. Totally incompetent. When will there be a proper investigation into these idiots? As someone else said, get rid and get mainland companies in.
