After a massive 5-year wait, final testing is underway at the ‘Energy from Waste’ plant on Forest Road in Newport. The Forest Road facility was supposed to have become operational in May 2019 but has been beset by delays and ‘unforeseen technical issues’. That original completion date was pushed back to January 2022 due to the pandemic and then pushed back once again to July 2022. 18 months on and the saga continues… During testing in January, the Isle of Wight Council said the plant exported enough energy — 386,663kWh — to power just over 7,000 houses for a week, based on average energy consumption. The aim of the plant is to use non-recyclable rubbish to generate renewable electricity, continuously, for up to 5,000 Island houses. Work started to build the Energy From Waste plant in April 2017 and County Hall has confirmed it did not have to pay for the hold-ups.
“The final testing stage is underway and a strict process must be adhered to. “The council and an independent certifier are closely supervising the commissioning tests, to ensure the facility meets operational standards and provides the Island with a long-term solution for non-recyclable waste disposal, generating electricity with the potential for heat recovery.”
Local media have never been invited to see the site.

What a load of rubbish.
So they are just burning the rubbish and using some sort of system to (hopefully) capture carbon rather than release into the atmosphere. A glorified incinerator.
Seems to good to be true, reducing landfill and creating energy for homes.
Lets wait and see how much this ends up costing us all on increased council tax, whilst those who don’t pay as they have burdened the state with feral children will likely get cheaper electricity from the plant.
Watch, and learn.
I think your 100% correct there’s getting more scrounging on this island than ever before , just so easy for them , increase gas increase elec ,increase council tax increase mobile phone cost increase whatever they want and those scroungers won’t give a sh1t as the council will increase what they take off hard working people to pay for them, and other low life’s on the island
im not knocking those in need as I know there are many genuine claimants
that and the floating turd would go well together..
This will be how the council justify leaving the lights on in county hall and keeping the heating at some balmy setting we mere plebs could never afford!!
How many workers are actually working in County Hall?!
I thought the majority of them were still shirking, I mean working
from home!
Lol
