Vandals have set fire to areas within New Road Toilets in Lake, causing a risk to persons and property.
The toilets are now shut and the immediate future is to be discussed by the Parish Council, with the proposed new build of the amenity still planned.
Parish Council Chairman Paul Brading said:
“Anti-social behaviour and vandalism at New Road Toilets has cost Lake residents 1000s of pounds, and the latest incident posed a serious fire risk to people and the building, and if the fire took hold, could have threatened neighbouring properties.”
Vice Chairman Adrian Whittaker added:
“We have reported the incident to the local Police and submitted a report, with photographs, and will support action being taken against the perpetrators.”
Lake Parish Council have recently replaced the Public Toilets at Lake Cliff Gardens, which has seen a significant reduction in levels of anti-social behaviour at the location, and has submitted a loan application to replace the New Road facility in response to the ongoing vandalism experienced at the location.
Cllr Brading concluded:
“We have listened to the concerns of residents, and within the limited resources of the Council, have had to prioritise the replacement of New Road Toilets within the next 6 months, subject to the loan, but recognise this has budget implications for 2024 onwards.”
Any chance of cctv OUTSIDE the toilets, might deter the little s*ds or even catch a glimpse of their precious faces. And apropos the new play area, forget it, it will only be another target.
Not good,but maybe should have a pay to open door system that takes CCTV of you like at cash point and Asda self pay,at least deter some of the selfish idiots. If these vandels get caught, then should be community service of 150hrs unpaid and be cleaning toilets,might make them think but also save Councils a few thousands in cleaning.
Install a smoke detector. If smoke is detected, the toilets should then close immediately with the vandals inside. It is for the best.
The parents of these feral morons must be so proud of them. This is what a once decent country has descended into.

So IMO GIVE NOTHING TO FOOD BANKS OR ANY CHARITY which will mostly send all your naive kindness to the sort they breed this trash.

Not kids, a local did this. Direct action. Trying to get them closed permanently.
So why not start a bulk standard straight forward system throughout the entire Island, that allows the local councils of each parish that has been vandalised to automatically offer a reward for the names and addresses of the yobs that have committed these acts of vandalism.
£100 would be enough to get their mates to dob them in. Then when taken to court, ask the judge to add the £100 to their fine. Stop messing around and start making these yobs pay for their damages. Or bring back discipline.
And bring back the birch of course.
Mean while the authorities are paying all this money in to a quango called community action which is supposed to give the youngsters activities to go too and keep them off the streets! Thousands being paid to an idiot with an OBE who couldn’t organise a nun in a convent ! Yet no one is asking where the money is going. Today in New Road Lake is the biggest gang of kids running amuck in the rain. Not one person is accountable.
These scum will be scum/vandals for the rest of their lives until there is a proper punishment for their actions. There is no deterrent and they will continue to get away with it. Unless someone does the same thing to their homes they will never understand nor care what they have done. Don’t even get me started on rehabilitation – that’s just a skive, might as well say “what a silly billy you are, that was a bit naughty don’t do it again please”.
