Although parking charges have been frozen for Isle of Wight residents, tourists are not so lucky with the price of an All Island Tourist Permit increasing next month. New figures show an All Island Tourist Permit will cost between 6 and 11% more from April – at least £10 a day. At an Isle of Wight Council meeting last week, leader Councillor Phil Jordan described the increase as ‘modest’ and confirmed other parking charges would not rise. The permit can range in length, from 2 days to 2 weeks for cars, and for either 4 or 7 days for coaches and oversized vehicles. It allows visitors (including Islanders, if they wish to buy one) to park for 24 hours in most council-owned pay and display car parks. Exceptions include Yarmouth Harbour and Yaverland’s Dinosaur Isle, however. Here’s how much costs will rise by: Cars
- 2-day permit – £18.75 to £20
- 3-day permit – £27 to £30
- 4-day permit – £37.50 to £40
- 7-day permit – £65.65 to £70
- 14-day permit – £131.25 to £140
Oversized vehicles
- 4-day permit – £72.80 to £83.20
- 7-day permit – £127.40 to £145.60
The permit can only be purchased via the PayByPhone app.

Phil Jordan describes the rise as modest ?????? For tourist’s!!!!!!!
What with ferry fares etc soon there won’t be any tourist’s!!!!!
And wow all other parking charges won’t go up !!!!!!
Can you remind me how many times they have gone up in the past few years years years !!!!!!
And £2 to park after 6pm ……
Total sham ,we are mugged by a load of egotistical numptys everyday !!!!!!!!
Absolutely agree, next they’ll be lamenting the down turn in tourists to the Island. It’s about time this Council learnt it can’t have it all their own way, without serious consequences.
The council are trying to be more eco friendly and lower carbon emissions.. They are, by putting off any tourists from come here due the extortionate high rates on everything!! Killing businesses. Disgrace and greed. Shame on them.
IWC is nothing short of totally clueless and useless. Complete disaster in every respect.
Pretty smart from a business standpoint, the extortionate ferry services already filter out people that refuse to get rinsed, so why not?
Get those plebs out of their vehicles – you should all be confined to your 15 minute zones and only be able to travel by state approved means if you carbon credit allows you to – you will own nothing and be happy and our council are gleefully working to ensure that net zero targets are met – net zero tourists, net zero jobs, net zero houses(they are reserved for imports), net zero transport and of course net zero services, though council tax and other taxes will need to increase to fund all the initiatives required to prevent you having anything yourselves
So when the council put up the council tax to the maximum,a goodly portion was supposedly to cover existing costs, adult social care etc etc. So why other than trying to pay down interest on large debts the council has are you increasing parking charges, if a family of holiday makers comes for the standard week, besides having to pay stupid sums of money for a dodgy ferry service they now have to find an extra 70 pounds for the privilege of parking on their holidays. Is it any wonder that people go abroad for half the cost when you have these people supposedly running the council. Oh yes they have to spend millions on a new chain ferry
The council trying to decimate our tourist industry.
Well that’s my holiday to iow scrapped this year so grandad granmadad and daughter and grandson off to Spain Cost a few quid more but saving in long run sorry iow people
I’m sad to say I agree with you. Instead of holidaying on the island, much as I love it, I’ll be off to the Canaries. I’ll miss my usual tour round the beautiful IOW but it’s just getting too expensive for me. Beer in the Canaries at a Euro a pint, a 3 course lunch for 10 Euros, decent cheap public transport & I can afford 2 weeks instead of a week on the Island. I hope for a lottery win so I can come back to shanklin!
Absolute cretins. Most people worry about their electricity bills and food bills. Lots of people just scrape by and manage a holiday here and our own council fleeses them. Add the cost of the ferry and this might just be enough to put people off coming. You couldn’t make this up. Councillors making these foolish decisions, do not represent me.
We paid £230 to come over this summer. Its a return ticket for the ferry. Portsmouth- Fishbourne. Lots of money.
I would stay in Hampshire, Dorset or Sussex, much cheaper than paying extortionate Ferry fares
£230 towards accommodation or spending money.
Ferry crossing is less than 5 miles and should not cost more than
£50 a return
betwe 6and11%so definitely 11%
you the council have pulled the wool over people’s eyes too many time. No one trusts anything you lot say anymore. You won’t be happy un to you wring and suck every last penny out of everyone.
i will never ever use any of your parking spaces
just like i will never again use your green garden bins.
IW Council are a joke, businesses are struggling and we need as many
Customers as possible.
Charging extortionate Ferry Fares and Parking Fees is not helping
Businesses.
Why do we vote for these people!
One way to beat the ridiculous parking charges
go inland, parking is free.
So many Roads in Ryde are non permit parking
You can park in High Park Road or Great Preston Road
Unlimited parking spaces free of charge and less
than a 10 minute walk to the beach.
Great idea. I do the same when parking in Ryde
West Hill Road or East Hill Road.
I am surprised the council have not installed meters or
charging permit parking.
Make the most of it while you still can, every little helps.
I usually leave my van there when going on holiday.
There is a reason its free, nobody wants to go to drug ridden ryde
Good point, Union Street is full of it.
Jordan doesn’t live in the real world, he gets free parking and HQ so never had to worry on a night out or shopping on a Saturday yet probably doesn’t know the price of milk and bread. The towns will die and shops will close then a drop in business rates incoming and he will wonder why? The man is incapable of running a floating bridge (as proven) yet stays in a highly paid job founded by us tax payers. Time to go mr numpty!!
That is the WEFs plan, you will own nothing and be happy
£10 per day? What a rip off!
I smell a business idea: you can start renting parking space at your property and make it cheaper.
What price per day would you set on your property?
I think the council need to look at a few of the youtube videos of what were once busy tourist areas at the coast. Weston Super Mare, for one, has lost its tourist trade and the town is now rapidly turning into an abandoned and run down area.
The island needs the tourist trade and if we lose that can you see this council keeping up with maintenance of the infrastructure.
My family visited us last year and it cost them a fortune even though I paid their ferry costs. This year they are off to Gran Canaria for less than it cost for a wet week here.
Many of the islands hotels are run down, the cleanest are the newest
Premier Inns and Travel Lodges, many of the old ones are filthy, even
the Royal at Ventnor is not as clean as Premier inn, and look what they charge.
