Thousands of Ryde residents look set to lose their local GP as it is revealed that Argyll House Surgery is to close its doors.
The surgery – based on Arygll Street – has out of the blue handed in its contract to deliver General Medical Services, leaving health bosses now scrambling around to make alternative arrangements for families in the North East area of the Island.
Island Echo understands that staff were only made aware of the decision to close the practice yesterday afternoon (Thursday).
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board (ICB) is now working with the practice team to support them through this process and will now engage with patients and the wider community to explore all possible next steps.
Patients – many of whom who been with the surgery for decades – are yet to be told directly.
In similar scenarios previously seen on the Island, the contract notice period is 6 months – meaning Argyll House could be closed by the start of 2024.
It was in 2019 that Beech Grove Surgery in Brading closed, forcing more than 4,000 people to move to other areas.
For some Argyll patients they have already moved once following the closure of Garfield Surgery.
There are limited options moving forward. The pending closure means that patients in Ryde, the Island’s biggest town, will in the future only be able to receive local treatment from either Tower House Surgery on Rink Road or Esplanade Surgery on the Esplanade.
Darren Cattell, Acting Place Director for Isle of Wight at the Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICB, has said:
“We will keep patients informed of developments as we work with the practice and support their staff through this process. Our priority will be to ensure patients continue to have access to high-quality primary care services.
“For the moment, Argyll House remains open and it’s very much business as usual for patients who need appointments or want to access other services”.
And they keep building more homes on the Island and keep wanting to
build even more homes.
The infrastructure on the Island is much worse than it was in the 1980s and onwards.
So many Hospitals over the years have been closed, and St Mary’s cannot cope now.
It’s all part of the he population plan, close the doctors, then they will watch the old die, then they will give the homes to browns.

Because old boy many of us had our schooling disrupted by non British students, who, not speaking much English cost us, and the education system much money and time and continues to add massive costs for our overstretched education budget as ever more arrive.

ALL is not lost. The well to do Councillors and better people can all afford private health and dental care, along with private school fees.
Living in leafy lanes, with huge gardens, garages, owning electric cars will present no worry as the rest of the plebs have no chargers, can’t afford the cars, and are priced off the road and squabble with the third world arrivals for living accommodation.
The better people will travel and live in safety whilst you and your loved ones are on public transport at the mercy of our own and imported pervs, drugged up, drunk and violent low life, with Police absent, courts powerless to jail any who ‘are’ caught as prisons filled to the max with our own and now the third worlds too.
This. certainly casts doubt on the logic of allowing large housing developments on the island. The lack of all NHS provision is getting really serious now. NHS dentistry is in crisis , access to GPs is getting more difficult as numbers decrease , Newport has lost 2 of its 5 Pharmacies in the last 10 years.
Central government needs to get a grip and to fund training of a lot more Doctors , Dentists , Pharmacists and Nurses. It may require subsidising or paying for university fees to rapidly increase numbers.
ANOTHER planned move to force private medical care onto the public.
GP surgeries are already private businesses, as are dentists, pharmacies, NHS 111 services, NHS IT, NHS logistics and almost all NHS hospitals in Scotland.
The NHS privatised itself many years ago but yet claim to be against privatisation.
More like pushing people to digital appointments online. They want to reduce face to face consultations, and will try and sign up people to cheaper digital options.
Be careful who you vote for next time, all of the main parties are on the privatisation bandwagon, whatever they say, too much payback involved.

Soon there will be no Doctors Surgeries left on the Island.
Yet most days boat loads of rapidly reproducing new arrivals fill our land, doctors, dental surgeries, homes, schools, courts , prisons, hospitals and roads.
Yet nothing is said, or done to curb the legal, let alone the illegal flood.
God help your young as their future will be in most cases far worse now.

Give it a break. A growing economy requires a growing population. There are already jobs that can’t be filled by the people here, or do you want 70 year olds picking fruit and veg or delivering groceries, etc.?
Depends on what sort are coming here half are retired and the other don’t need to work,as for jobs employees can’t even afford the minimum wage

Next time you need help from medical professionals in St Marys, make sure you decline any help from any of these “legals”. Or do you only discriminating against people online?
I’d love to see you in any NHS hospital in the UK.
A large proportion of the medical staff are legal immigrants.
As is our current Prime Minister’s father who is a GP but was born in Nairobi.
Also worth mentioning that Suella “send them to Rwanda” Braverman’s parents are also both legal immigrants (from Mauritius and Kenya).
Those found in our hospitals, surgeries, pharmacies and care homes here are nearly all providing services for the existing population. Our schools could certainly benefit from an influx of children whose parents value education.
Is all this just the start of total privatisation NHS Hospital as well

The worst of it is, is we will all end up paying both. For all the endless spongers arriving and filling maternity wards, schools and homes can never pay in enough to cover their needs, as can’t our own workshy, so WE will have to pay national insurance to cover ‘them all’ as well as pay a private insurance for ourselves.
Sadly this weak, feeble country won’t let the parasites in society suffer, but will ensure that the poor pay to cover those most of us never even wanted here in the first place.
So the rich will grow ever more ‘distant’ from the working classes as they have private education private health and dental care, swan around in electric cars whilst WE are left to fend off the dregs of the worlds crims.
Flats with benefit of parking there whether it be private or council the decision is another awful one

With all the dwellings that this useless council approve. Still no dentists and now even fewer GPs.
Yet the thousands arriving every week, get priority private medical treatment, with plenty of free money and accommodation.

If, say for example, London decides to overstretch the NATIONAL Health Service, then everyone within that same NATION will be affected by it. It’s really not rocket science here.

The POINT is many British people MOVE here to escape towns and places they , thanks to mass immigration they no longer feel comfortable living in.

I can only say that this is likely to be only the beginning of the closure of all NHS services on the island. It is at times like this that Bob Seeley has to get fully involved and treat this closure as his number one priority. Literally thousands of patients could be left floundering, young and old.
Skippy is a has-been back-bencher who seems to have a knack of backing the wrong candidate in Tory leadership elections.
Remember, he backed the utter disaster that was Liz Truss over Sunak. The chances of Sunak paying any attention to him are somewhere between zero and none at all.
One thing you can be sure of. If the Tories get reelected after the way they have wrecked this country they will think (rightly) that they are untouchable. It will then be goodbye NHS, hello massive profits (for them) from a US style system.
Well thats nice of them to drop this like a bomb out of the blue. Why don’t they get rid of this nonsense where you have to live in a certain area to go to a certain doctors. Then people could go to Sandown or Newport or elsewhere. It looks like they will have to anyway now.
Extremely sad news, as we have had excellent service from them over the years. Really well run and will be greatly missed in the community. Such a shame if it does close. We would like to know if there is any chance of it continuing in the future if there is someone else who can take over the “contract”.
One can only hope that the NHS sit up and take note that we need that service saving and will put something in place to help the GP practices on the Island as the ratio of doctors to people is not high enough.

Perhaps Captiva who’s owners the Pinks who seem to have a symbiotic relationship with our accommodating Council, will fund a huge new doctors for a decade as a ‘thank you’ for the millions it has made by ruining Ryde, not for a while but forever.
Then again with private health care they may choose not to.
A token gesture one off payment at best is my guess IF at all
