Royal Mail has launched an investigation into the theft of parcels from its Newport delivery office, Island Echo can reveal. It’s alleged that thousands of pounds worth of parcels have been stolen by an employee, which has prompted bosses to investigate further. It is unclear at this stage exactly how many parcels have gone missing and whether or not affected customers have been identified. A spokesperson for Royal Mail has confirmed that an ‘issue’ has been identified at the Newport delivery office on Riverway and that a live investigation remains ongoing. The security of mail is a top priority, they add. No comment has been given as to whether the matter has been referred to the Police, and whether or not any employees have been suspended or dismissed.
