19-year-old Yaashmi Ravikumar from Essex has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following last year’s fatal crash on Forest Road near Newport, which claimed the life of 1 person and injured 19 others.
Island Echo reveals the news on the anniversary of the major incident which saw a Mini One, a Southern Vectis double decker bus and a Fiat Bravo collide at the junction of Forest Road and Whitehouse Road on 14th April 2019.
64-year-old Yvonne Copland tragically lost her life in the crash, whilst her husband Derrick sustained serious injuries and spent 7 weeks in intensive care. 3 others were also seriously injured.
The incident, which occurred at 12:46 on a Sunday afternoon, was quickly deemed a major incident with 4 air ambulances from across the South called in to support local emergency services with their response.
Hampshire Constabulary have been investigating the circumstances behind the crash over several months and as a result have now charged the driver of the silver Mini One.
Yaashmi Ravikumar, a 19-year-old mathematics student and financial assistant from Laindon in Essex, has been charged by Police with a single count of death by dangerous driving and 4 counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Miss Ravikumar is due to appear at Isle of Wight Crown Court on 15th May 2020.
