54-year-old Helen Sparrow has been handed a 6-week prison sentence – suspended for 12 months – after admitting drink driving whilst more than 4 times the legal limit.
Sparrow, of Windmill Close in Cowes, crashed her Audi A1 into 2 parked cars – a VW Passat and a Renault Clio – on St Mary’s Road, Cowes on 7th August this year, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Police were called to the scene and arrested Sparrow on the spot. She later blew a staggering 144 on the evidential breathalyser – 4.11x the legal limit of 35.
Helen Sparrow admitted a single charge of driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 23rd August. Solicitor Liz Miller told the court that her client admitted she had a problem but did not realise she was over the limit at the time of the incident.
Magistrates decided to hand down a 6-week prison sentence – suspended for 12 months – and banned Sparrow from driving for a period of 26 months. She must also pay court costs of £85 with a £122 surcharge.
