Southern Housing Group has teamed up with leading online course provider New Skills Academy to offer accredited online courses to its residents looking to gain new skills and qualifications.
Through the new partnership, residents of the G15 housing association will be able to access over 700 free lifetime courses, covering a wide variety of subjects.
The partnership comes as the government’s furlough scheme, which helped pay the wages of around 11.6 million workers throughout the pandemic, closed at the end of last month. According to research by the Resolution Foundation, around one million people were still relying on the scheme when it ended on 30th September, triggering a period of uncertainty for both businesses and employees.
It is expected that many of those who relied on the scheme may be facing increased job insecurity and even redundancy, with many opting to re-consider their career paths.
Nevertheless, the partnership will benefit not just those looking for a new career path. Residents looking to simply boost their employability, turn their passions into a new ‘side hustle’, or even just explore a new hobby will be able to benefit from the new initiative.
Most importantly, the Group hopes that residents who take part in the courses will reap positive effects to their confidence and wellbeing. The range of course subjects is extensive and covers a range of subjects from computing and tourism to beauty and animal care.
Matthew Mclean, Southern Housing Group’s Employment and Digital Training Manager, said:
“This new partnership is going to provide the perfect platform for our residents to develop skills and confidence in areas that really interest them and hopefully give them an extra edge when applying for new jobs.
“We are delighted to be working with the New Skills Academy and we will be listening to our residents and responding to their needs and interests, ensuring the courses on offer reflect the skills and careers they want to pursue.”
There are over 700 online courses for residents to choose from, with each being fully accredited and certified upon successful completion. Southern Housing Group residents can access the courses by contacting [email protected].
