Firefighters are in attendance on a farm lane on the outskirts of Whitwell this evening (Saturday).
A chimney fire is reported to have developed at a property on Week Lane, off Whitwell Road.
1 appliance from Shanklin was mobilised to the address at just before 20:20 with the crew proceeding under foggy conditions.
The retained firefighters remain in attendance as of 21:20. The situation is understood to be under control.
It was just 5 days ago that Shanklin’s pump was called to another chimney fire in Whitwell.
Most chimney fires are preventable. Regular inspection and cleaning of chimney flues will help prevent fires within your chimney. For more information visit https://www.hantsfire.gov.uk/keeping-safe/loveyourhome/firehazards/chimney/.
Does Ventnor Fire Brigade not exist anymore – is it really ok that Shanklin are the nearest ??? We pay the council for this service to our community …….. but it’s not available
Isn’t that what’s a chimney for??
Fair point about the fire station at Ventnor but if correct materials ie. Dried logs or coal were used and 1 sweep a year… There wouldn’t be any chimney fires. I don’t know why people risk there life’s and houses for the sake of a bit of common sense.
Log fires are going to be banned from 2030, to prevent people not having to pay utility bills to heat their homes, more state control, as people have used logs since progressing from Apes.
Yet KNOW, suddenly it is all for ‘our benefit’ to ban such. SEE it how it really is, Trump was not the fool many took him for.
