Police and paramedics have been mobilised to a serious road traffic collision on Newport Road in Cowes this morning (Thursday).
It’s thought that a pedestrian has been struck by a car between the junctions of Milton Road and Smithards Lane.
A white car can be seen bumped up on the pavement.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 08:15, with multiple resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service dispatched alongside Police.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to the Island, landing at St Mary’s helipad in the past few minutes. It’s unclear at this time if this is in connection with the Cowes incident.
The road has been closed by Police in both directions as medics tend to the casualty and investigations get underway.

“20 mph is to slow” “some people may die, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make”
It was 20 yards from a zebra crossing. Just stating a fact. Sometimes not always the driver’s fault.
Cars are guests on residential streets.
He’s not saying it’s driver’s fault. He’s saying that lower speed would help no matter whose fault it is, be it an adult, a kiddo chasing a ball or a blind man, it would be nice if we decrease the death risk instead of “well, it’s their fault, there was a zebra crossing, nothing else to improve here” attitude.
EU has plenty of 30kph zones in residential areas for that reason. Heck, I lived my whole life in a borough-wide one and no one was ever worried about it, and it’s just 18mph! Meanwhile here in UK people suddenly lose their shit – on an island with higher than average number of road deaths nonetheless!
What a stupid thing to say!! Idiot!!
I watched this happen when I was walking to meet my friend to walk to school, I know the lady and her husband and my dad are at the hospital together
Police are requesting witnesses on their page
The lady is my sister. Have you contacted the police?
Agreed, if you are a witness please do that nice lady and her husband the courtesy of contacting the police to make a statement.
Best wish3s to the woman concerned
