A section of the harbour wall on the Solent side has fallen away and dropped around 1ft, with the pathway bricks surrounding it having lifted across the entire width, indicating the foundations underneath have been compromised.
Smaller sections also appear to be partially compromised further along the sea wall.
An Island Echo reader and Ryde resident got in touch via email this evening notifying us of the potential danger, with the information being passed onto Island Roads.
Walkers are reminded to adhere to all closure notices both on the roads and on pathways.
Access is retained to boats currently moored in the harbour.
The Isle of Wight Council has been notified of the situation.
