A serving prisoner attempted to cause maximum disruption by climbing onto the roof of HMP Isle of Wight over the weekend.
The unnamed prisoner somehow gained access to the roof of the Category B prison in Newport – thought to be at the Albany site.
Staff worked quickly to remove the convict from the precarious position with the person involved not suffering any injuries.
Island Echo understands the incident happened on Sunday night and saw the national Tornado team drafted in.
It remains unclear as to how the prisoner managed to access the roof of the secure HM Prison facility.
A Prison Service spokesperson has told Island Echo:
“A prisoner at HMP Isle of Wight climbed onto the roof but thanks to the hard work of our staff the incident was resolved swiftly without any injuries.”
The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that the prisoner came down from the roof voluntarily and that he will, as a result of this escapade, face a serious punishment.

This is horrible. I can’t imagine the pain this person was feeling.
Perhaps he is missing the Prison warders ‘feminine’ touch. I expect another obliging one will fill the absence soon.
A bullet would of been quicker
Do you think we should set up gas chambers too?
Of course not. Haven’t you seen the price of gas recently?? Bullets are much cheaper.
They always come down in the end. If negotiations fail there’s always gravity.
I cannot understand why they bother to get him down
Damage they cause, and they would be sued if it was injured.
I would prefer one shot to the head option.
Humans are not an ‘endangered species’ so we have plenty of decent people who could well use the cost and resources of low life now.
He obviously wanted a night out on the tiles.
so did they remove him uninjured from the roof or did he get down voluntarily as this report says both happened ???
