Police have descended on an area of Lake and have sealed off a byway following a serious incident this evening (Monday).
At around 17:15, a number of officers responded to the area surrounding Scotchells Brook Lane off Newport Road. They began conducting a search of fields in the vicinity of Sandown Airport and Morrisons supermarket with the help of dogs.
Then, around an hour later, a number of paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service rushed to the same area. 2 ambulances and an ambulance officer were witnessed to be in attendance but the service has since stood down from the incident.
Police have now closed Byway SS18 and investigations are underway in the rural spot.
Island Echo understands that 2 parties are potentially involved in the incident. It is unknown at this time if any arrests have been made.
An inspector has been called to the scene, indicating the seriousness of the situation. An update is expected from him in due course.
UPDATE @ 21:25 – A murder investigation has been launched by Police as they investigate the discovery of a body in woodland.
