Police have today (Saturday) put out an appeal for witnesses following a serious collision in East Cowes last month that left a 22-year-old pedestrian with serious injuries.
A statement issued by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says officers were called at 22:34 on 20th July to reports of a collision between a Surron motorbike and a pedestrian on Beatrice Avenue, at the junction with South Bank Road.
As first reported by Island Echo, the pedestrian, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with a serious injury.
The rider, a 20-year-old man from East Cowes, was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance, and failing to stop after a collision.
He has since been released on police bail.
It was said that when officers arrived at the scene, the bike involved in the collision was no longer present, with those in attendance suspecting it was moved by a third party.
As a result, police are appealing for any witnesses who may be able to assist their enquiries.

Sadly there is no law and order, such accidents never happen
when so called VIPs visit the island.
I never saw this type of nonsense when Princess Anne was in
Cowes a few days ago.
Luckily for them they are protected from such incidents by police etc
Even though we pay their wages we don’t get the same treatment from
the institutions we pay for.
