Police from across the Isle of Wight congratulated staff at St Mary’s Hospital on the fantastic job they are doing in extremely difficult circumstances last night (Monday).
At 20:00, Response and Patrol, Neighbourhood Policing and Joint Operations Unit teams gathered outside St Mary’s Hospital in Newport to give a round of applause to those NHS colleagues who are working on the frontline, day in and day out.
Officers then presented staff with a welfare pack of gifts to keep them going.

A lovely gesture
Well done to all our nhs staff for all there hard work and commitment at this tough time….proud to be British
Very nice gesture. Shame they didn’t observe the social distancing rules and set a highly visible example. No one is immune from catching the bug…. Just saying…
I understood the role of the Police was about keeping NHS staff safe. Lets hope it’s not just nice gifts they’ve passing on, or are the Police immune from Covi-19 virus?
Our NHS staff are true Angels, bless everyone of them, also the key workers, and Volunteers. xxxx
But will we be thinking the same about the Police who are adopted a heavy handed attitude to those going about their lawful duties.
A friend was stopped by the Police on his way to his employment, and told he shouldn’t be working, although he wasn’t asked what his work was!
I appreciate the Police have a job of work to do, but surely there’s no need to antagonize the public.
Surely everyone should realise that the police are the biggest bunch of hypocrites going and power crazy but what goes around comes around just wait until they want the publics help in future do you think they will get it
stop slagging off the police!!!!!! They are having to abide with what they have been told to do and if it means questioning people then they will. How the story is portrayed later in the day is up to the individual. If we didn’t have all these wasters setting fire to things, rolling cars, breaking into premises and generally being a pain in the arse maybe they could get on with things. If there is a group pissed up in the high street against some tit breaking into a shop or somebodies home, or deciding to light a fire what are they supposed to do!!!!!
They applauded our NHS staff and delivered a welfare pack of gifts. good for them. Just remember they would be the people you will call if your in trouble
I was not slagging off the Police!!!!!!
No problems about being stopped and questioned. The fact of the matter is, this particular Police Officer tells my friends son he couldn’t go to work, all be it legal.
It is parliament who make the law, it’s the role of Police to uphold the law, and advise.
And we have new holiday makers today at chillerton farm barns
Just unbelievable!
Perhaps the police could have helped out distributing some PPE to the staff after they had clapped there hands. Just a thought.
