A planning application to allow Wight Karting to operate until 20:00 for 4 evenings a week and during bank holidays has been approved by the Isle of Wight Council this week.
The application was previously recommended for approval by the Environmental Health department of the Isle of Wight Council following constant monitoring and noise mitigation investment strategies employed by WightKarting, which have been recognised locally as preventing any noise nuisance to the surrounding community.
Wight Karting have been planning extended opening hours for a long while with the aim of creating more accessibility for enthusiastic karters or business parties who wish to experience karting, but can’t make the current opening hours fit around their busy schedules. The company will now be open later for the duration of the Christmas period ensuring that their special seasonal offers can be taken advantage of under the floodlit track, even after work.
Cathy Foulkes, Owner of WightKarting, said:
“We are delighted that our application has been approved, as we have been working incredibly hard since we opened to make motorsport accessible for all, and we believe that extended opening hours will allow a greater proportion of Islanders and tourists alike to try the sport at times that fit them – be it after work or once the young children are in bed.
“We have worked all throughout the year monitoring our noise levels and consistently reporting on these to the council, and we have also worked closely with them to develop a number of successful noise mitigation strategies that we always employ.”
