An ingenious Isle of Wight pensioner has created a personalised number plate – RU88 1SH – to circumvent bureaucracy at her local tip.
Patricia, who no longer has a car, had found herself unable to leave rubbish at Afton Marsh tip in Freshwater using her bin trolley because she lacked a wheeled vehicle with a registration mark.
Council workers are required to enter a number plate with every load.
With this in mind, refuse workers suggested that Patricia created her own personalised plate to be able to conform with their registration system.
The resourceful Freshwater resident ordered a custom numberplate with the right combination of numbers and letters at her local printing business, The Printing Shop IOW.
She has now stuck the plate onto her homemade ‘Deluxe Dustbin on Wheels’, which she intends to wheel down to Afton Marsh on foot shortly – in the hopes of being let in.

Perhaps the staff at the tip could have tried to use a bit of common sense instead of being a bunch of jobsworths, then she wouldn’t have had to go through that palaver.
Love it , a very clever idea .
Can’t say no now !
Sums up the IWC … I have seen people walking in with wheelbarrows and bin bags full of waste .. never challenged !! So yes over zealous jobsworths ..
What a load of RU88 1SH.
I dispute the assertion that she used the right combination of numbers and letters.
Current British number plates are arranged in the format of two letters, followed by two numbers, followed by a space and then three random letters.
Just goes to show why she shouldn’t be allowed in the tip.
Anyway not sure why she needs to go, can’t she use the kerbside service with such minimal waste. Obviously got too much time and money on her hands.
It appears you have also.
Get a life
Sounds like you could have been that jobsworth
No sense of humour!
If you are so political correct ? maybe you could take this ladies rubbish down to the tip ?????
Thought not ,you are probably to busy being pedantic !!!
Not if you have a personalised plate
what an unpleasant pedant you are.
She sounds like my cup of tea
Sounds like love is in the air.
Ah, the British motonormativity. You don’t have a vehicle, you don’t exist.
The fact you have to do a trip to a tip is ridiculous in its own matter.
And in cities and town “garbage day” is another LOL. Perhaps one day we will get to this level: https://youtu.be/0JtoSafhvLM
IDK why we keep using inferior systems. Why would we do it to ourselves?
Well done to that lady. A real 2 fingers with each hand to nonsense rules and regulations.
A clever brain will always find ways to circumvent idiocy like this.
Proof you are never too old to learn. Like I keep saying we need to nurture our elderly population as they have a valuable insight into life’s ups and downs and ways of sorting everything out – most of the time. Well done to Patricia for her innovation in dealing with bureaucracy.
Love it! This is what we need more of in this country with it’s (largely) Gormless population – fighting spirit and action! Well done, that woman!
