Crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have tonight (Sunday) attended a small oven fire at the home of a fellow firefighter whilst he was responding to a separate call out.
2 appliances from Newport and Sandown were initially and mistakingly sent to Cross Street in the heart of Ryde by fire control at around 21:40. It was soon found to be the wrong address, forcing the relocation of the appliances to Cross Street in Oakfield.
Upon arrival at the scene firefighters discovered it to be the home of a colleague from Ryde Fire Station who had left the property in a hurry to respond to a separate shout in Market Street.
Thankfully, no one has been injured in the incident and the damage is minimal.
Island Echo understands the cooker was left on slightly causing the kitchen to fill with smoke and set off the fire alarms.
