A local woman has been left with a life-threatening brain injury and is in a critical condition in Southampton General Hospital tonight (Friday) following yesterday’s horror crash on Briddlesford Road near Wootton.
Police on the Isle of Wight are still looking for 2 male occupants of a silver BMW that was involved in a crash with a Vauxhall Astra on Thursday (27th June). The duo failed to remain at the scene and made off on foot.
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services descended on the junction of Blacklands Lane at around 17:45. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was quickly scrambled and then airlifted the Newport woman straight to Southampton, where she remains in a critical condition more than 24 hours after the incident.
Briddlesford Road remained closed for several hours as specialist collision investigators pieced together the sequence of events. The National Police Air Service Helicopter was scene circling above the scene several hours after the initial impact.
The victim’s family have taken to Facebook tonight to highlight the extent of the injuries sustained – all of which are significant internal injuries. They are appealing for anyone with information as to the identities or location of the 2 males to contact Police.
Hampshire Constabulary confirmed to Island Echo earlier on today that the 2 wanted individuals have not yet been arrested (correct as of 16:00).
A spokesperson for the force said yesterday:
“We would like to speak with these two men as soon as possible as we are concerned they could be injured, and would like them to assist our enquiries into this collision.

If that is the reg number of the car it has only recently had an MOT put on it. If you check mot history on google and put that reg in you get a test station number this would tell you the garage that put the mot on the car the garage would have customer details???
I wholeheartedly agree with Sean. If there is a legal issue with the reg being published then please publish the last 5 digits , then people can check their dash cams before the footage is overwritten, some cameras will have picked them up. Most dash cams will only hold a few hours footage.
An idea of the approach route would also help.
They need to go to court, as do those who know their identities and are illegally withholding the information.
I trust their family or friends know that they can be charged with withholding this information.
I do hope the lady who was severely injured does eventually make a good recovery.
The BMW occupants must have absolutely no conscience , they need dealing with. They have devastated the life of the victim and her family.

Its too simple for police to release the REG……sort it out !! Its what tax payers pay for
First step, a meaningful statement from the police would help….There’s no way they’re concerned with the welfare of those two people.

If not, then release the name of the registered owner and say that they are trying to locate him/her in connection with this incident…

Totally agree. The car is taxed so someone payed for it. You get a tax reminder sent to your house so they must know who they are looking for or was the car stolen yet again not much help from the police more information needed how are the public expected to help.
Police say concerned the 2 men are injured?? How about being concerned about the family. This young girl is my wife’s daughter and police have not even spoke to her. The victims brother,sisters and father are all staying at the hospital at their own great expense . My wife is struggling to go back over to be with her daughter after she initially went to see her. I am an amputee confined to a wheelchair with various other issues so she is also worried about leaving me unable to manage. So I say who gives a flying …. If these men are injured.

Why show that one, but not this one, where it could make a difference to locating the people involved?
This car passed it’s MOT Test on 19 June 2019, the MOT test number is 5401 9635 4292, surely the Police can check where it was MOT’d with VOSA and visit the garage and get the details of who booked the car in for an MOT !!! HOWEVER the vehicle is NOT insured and this is the likely reason the driver ran off. They should be BANNED FOR LIFE and given a long prison sentence if they cannot live in a community abide by the rules and respect other civilians. Everyone is saying the bmw driver is at fault but if you look at the photos the astra pulled out in front of the bmw so she was the cause of the crash & the bmw driver is guilty only of leaving the scean

The ones that were published don’t show the front of either vehicle so how you can be so sure baffles me,.. or were you the driver of the BMW ?
