The Foot Therapy Centre based in Newport is to close later this month after ‘keeping people on their feet’ for some 17 years.
The business was opened in 2006 by Kiren Dhillon. Over the years many friendships have been made, with some patients having been looked after for 25 years.
Kiren first came to the Island to work in the NHS in 1991. After some voluntary work overseas she started a private practice back on the Island in 1997.
More than 3 years ago Kiren recognised she needed to retire to care for her mother, but due to a significant lack of podiatrists on the Island, she kept working in the hope that eventually she would be able to find a podiatrist to take over.
Unfortunately, the problem is nationwide, with podiatry struggling the same as dentists, optometrists and pharmacists.
Kiren finally accepted she couldn’t find a podiatrist to look after her patients and the practice will close at the end of August. She would like to say thank you to all of her patients for the years of support and friendships formed.
Patients are advised to look on the Royal College of Podiatry website ‘find a podiatrist’ link (www.rcop.org.uk) for further help.
This news follows the sad announcement of the loss of another Island chiropodist, Isle of Wight Feet in Shanklin.
Owner Jason Mansell sadly passed away earlier this week, it has been announced.

Its sad and highlights a big problem we have on the Island. Unless you are born here and have responsibilities toward family there is very little incentive to stay on the Island as opportunities for good salaries and career advancement only exist on the mainland.
Worse still, we cannot attract mainland talent to come and live and work on the Island as salaries here are poor and opportunity limited, plus anyone coming here has to balance being cut off from their mainland family, friends and facilities by extortionate ferry fares against the only real advantage of Island life, a quieter peaceful existence. Great for the retired, but the young?
Is it any wonder we are losing skilled businesses such as this?
With growing amounts of tax credit funded feral, social housing trash, even the ‘Peaceful, quality of life’ for retirement is now and growingly questionable.
The Council have ruined this place, as that WAS it’s only attraction of beautiful countryside, decent people. They have or are building on the countryside, and importing vile people adding to our own growing amount of state funded low life, who, in turn have scattered children at puberty adding to the economic, and social ruination of this place for all, EXEPT them who are happy to live for free at our cost, ignoring laws and rules, and with jails full of the worlds dross now, they are safe in the knowledge that “They (the courts) won’t do nuffin”
And they are right.
What are you on about Wilbur? Talking drivel. The only vile people I’m aware of are the racists like you who use every opportunity to repeat this same old b-sh1t time and time again. Don’t be afraid of us brown people, we employ lots of the likes of you, and you know it. Without us you’d be unemployed.
I agree some people would likely not be employed in the positions they are currently employed in without some types of recent arrivals being here.
Like plastic surgeons, rebuilding the faces of acid attack victims, and knife wounds, along with gun shot damage.
Like maternity ward staff.
Like prison warders, Police, and court officials.
Like STD clinics, and rape crisis centres
The list above is just a small selection, but I guess you will get the drift.
Of course NOT all are a problem, the problem is we have too many of our own now that are, and need no more risk to our people.
For plenty coming to better their life usually means a huge cost in housing, land, doctors dental and hospital delays, along with more crime
Look I am sorry I wrote all of this but I forgot take my medication earlier and I can get very paranoid. I am usually very tolerant and loving.
Ha ha ha, you lot hate the truth, quick click those thumbs down, make you feel all snug and white privilege
you could always leave mark – with your non white jealousy
Why leave? I was born here. What do I have to be jealous of? I earn good money, have a lovely home, nice car, successful business owner, life is peachy.
correct wilbur – I grew up here and it was fine until they started encouraging dross to show up here and live.
Grew up here, meaning you weren’t born here. True definition of an Islander. Why not go back to where-ever you originate from?
Ohhh the irony…
He’s probably one of those fat old gammons that moved here and infest the place.
Used to be a nice place growing up here. Place is now full of nasty vicious old gits
You did not grow up here. The only “dross” are fat gammons like you who moved here to retire.
Couldn’t agree more and I am a real Islander all 77 years me
. and still working 40 hours a week because I saved and bought my own house and not entitled to any Benefits nor have I ever had any in my whole life.
You are working 40 hours a week at 70 because you saved?
Maybe you need to check your trolling for consistency before posting in the future.
Just a thought.
