The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed on the pad at Hovertravel’s Ryde terminal this morning (Wednesday) as flying medics respond to an emergency on the nearby Esplanade.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – who initially responded to the emergency call out shortly before 11:00 – have been joined by paramedics and doctors from the air ambulance in treating a casualty at the roadside.
The westbound carriageway of Esplanade has been closed to all traffic and pedestrians by Police as medics tend to those involved and officers conduct initial on scene investigations.
An elderly couple, who are thought to have been travelling in a Mercedes heading in the westbound direction, are being checked over.
UPDATE @ 14:11 – Police have confirmed that a man in his 70s, who was riding a bicycle, has sustained serious injuries after being hit by a car.
Collision investigators from the mainland are now on scene conducting a forensic examination.
