Police are continuing to investigate what led to a collision between a motorcycle and a van on the outskirts of Newport last night (Friday), which resulted in a man in his 20s sustaining serious injuries.
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to Whiterails Road – between Newport and Wootton – at just gone 19:30 yesterday evening.
It is here, near the entrance to Island Riding Centre, that a Yamaha YZF R3 collided with the rear of a Ford Transit van.
The road was closed for more than 4 hours last night as Police began their investigations into the cause of the incident, and awaited a medical update from doctors at St Mary’s Hospital.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed today that the rider, a man in his 20s from Ryde, sustained serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Enquiries continue.

Maybe it’s time the caravan was moved. How about homing the person unfortunate enough to be living in it. It does now seem to be in a dangerous position
Strange – thought Island Riding Centre was on Staplers Road, not Whiterails Road.
Hope the young man is okay.
