UPDATED: A total of 8 Police units are attending an incident at a care home in the village of Bembridge tonight (Sunday).
An armed response vehicle, 2 dog units, 2 vans and 3 response cars are currently located at Inver House and Langham Court on Forelands Road.
Officers rushed to the normally quiet area at just before 22:15.
Island Echo understands that an arrest has been made – thought to be on suspicion of a serious offence.
It is also thought an officer has been injured in the line of duty, although this is yet to be confirmed.
UPDATE @ 23:54 – 1 of the 8 Police cars to respond to the incident – a dog unit – has been taken away on the back of a recovery lorry tonight.
3 vehicles remain at Inver House, where officers are taking statements from staff members.
Contractors have been called in to clear up broken glass from what appears to be smashed windows on the front door.
Neighbours have described to Island Echo hearing the drama unfolding and the concern that soon followed. A number of bangs were heard.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to comment on the incident.
UPDATE MONDAY – A 53-year-old man from London has been arrested and questioned on suspicion of attempted kidnap and aggravated burglary.
