A 53-year-old man from London has been arrested and questioned on suspicion of attempted kidnap and aggravated burglary following an incident in Bembridge last night (Sunday).
As first reported by Island Echo, Police responded in large numbers to Inver House on Forelands Road at around 22:15 with 8 units heading to the scene from Ryde and Newport.
Hampshire Constabulary have this morning confirmed that a 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap, aggravated burglary, assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty and criminal damage.
According to Police the unidentified man is accused of breaking into the care home. Smashed glass could be seen in the doorway of Inver House with further damage to a secondary door with reinforced glass.
Island Echo understands the gentleman was attempting to reach a relative inside the property.
It’s understood one of the first officers on scene, a dog handler, was injured in the incident. Her vehicle was recovered from the scene by Stag Lane Motors late last night whilst Police continued to take statements from staff at the home.
The accused remains in Police custody at this time.
