Labour candidate Richard Quigley has topped an exit poll carried out by Island Echo and the Isle of Wight Observer following Wednesday night’s premier hustings event for Isle of Wight West – but only just. Every audience member was handed a pencil and piece of paper to vote for their preferred candidate, with voting slips collated at the end of what was an informative and eventful night. As previously reported, residents from across the new Isle of Wight West constituency packed into Newport Minster to hear from those standing in next month’s General Election – the first election since the Isle of Wight was split into 2 parliamentary seats. It can now be revealed that Richard Quigley gained the most support in the exit poll with a total of 110 votes. Very closely behind in second place was the Conservative’s Bob Seely with 100 votes. The exit poll puts the 2 frontrunners perhaps closer than what many would think from the reaction in the room on the night, with Labour supporters seemingly more vocal.
A total of 255 votes were cast with 13 spoilt ballots.
Isle of Wight West Hustings – Exit Poll Results
- Cameron Palin (Green) – 11
- Ian Pickering (Reform) – 13
- Richard Quigley (Labour) – 110
- Bob Seely (Conserative) – 100
- Nick Stuart (Lib Dem) – 8
- Rachel Thacker (ADF) – 0
You can watch the entire hustings, as live streamed by Island Echo, below:

Mr Pickering has the gimpiest tie, shirt, jacket combo.
And he couldn’t even remember the “policies” of his party, Reform UK. A dunderhead!
Some nasty people who are clearly worried, otherwise why comment on someones dress sense or be nasty about someone who was unwell.
Bet if he was black wearing a loin cloth and barely spoke English nothing would have been said or allowed to be said.
VOTE REFORM or your children will be paying a very dear price for your naive view of the countries future.
Vote Reform and get Labour. Wake up before it is too late. The hustings vote above shows exactly what will happen if you vote Reform.
Labour created the NHS, and rebuilt it in under Blair, after tory neglect (hospitals were close to collapse in 1997, also leaking schools, just like now) .Labour slashed hospital waiting lists, introduced Sure start, funded youth clubs, increased school staff numbers, introduced minimum wage, lifted millions out of poverty. Look it up. And No, they did not crash the economy, it was a global economic crisis and Gordon Brown lead international steps to save the banks.
Yes please, a Labour government.
I’m not voting, but God help us if Labour get in. Does nobody remember two massive recessions we had under Labour cause they taxed us all to the hilt, and the property market and businesses suffered. I’m sure il be saying ‘told you so’ under Labour.
Then if your not voting don’t moan about things. Multiple properties no doubt, renting them out at extortionate price as well I bet, holiday rip off lets too. All are BAD for the island. Puts prices up for locals who would like to move, but not off the island. Get real and vote. But then greedy people like to just keep quiet and hide under a rock and hope they don’t get noticed.
I think you might find that one of those recessions was caused by greedy hedge fund managers (such as Rishi Sunak) who caused a world banking crisis and made a huge amount of individual profit to boot. Nothing to do with Labour.
Not voting is not a problem but spreading disinformation is.
“I’m not voting, but God help us if Labour get in.”
You do know that statement makes zero sense, right?
This comment is a classic case of educating yourself in public
Why are you not voting? If you are so concerned about Labour getting into power you should go out and vote Conservative because a vote for any other party will let labour in as is proved by the above voting chart.
How ignorant are you. It was a Global recession in 2008. Clue is in the name.
Bob Seely, liar, smarmy, hypocrite and arrogant beyond belief.
Proof is here,

Pretty damning, isn’t it?
But watch the IE Torybots poke their fingers in their ears going “la la la not listening” and listen as they mash the downvote button so hard you can hear their screens crack.
did nothing for the people of Cowes, buried his head in the sand when it came to 2nd home parking choking the town, be careful what you wish for, champagne socialist of the highest order.
quigley is the quintessential do gooding, champagne socialist. He virtue signals at every turn, however, is bereft of the capacity to realise that all his chit chat about how bad everyone else is, just shows him up to be the incompetent he really is.
No, we do not want Labour in the West Wight or the UK.
Most women I know are outraged that their rights will be revoked if Labour win, other women simply don’t know or don’t understand that they will not be safe in toilets or changing rooms or prison, or even when competing in sports. Labour say that women can have a lady sausage.
For an example this means that Tyson Fury could enter a boxing ring and fight a female if he said he was a woman on that day.
This is absolutely wrong
Reform UK is the way to take back our country.
They say it how it is, and one of my favourite sayings is ~ it is what it is.
You have a head full of nonsense John. None of what your write is true. You just make it up as you go along.
Agree,we desperately need change, and if im branded a racist for voting reform, then so be it,couldnt give a toss what other people think anyway, reform is needed!
Please, I hope we aren’t the place to get known as voting for a nasty, backward, Trumpist party. IoW does have a reputation for being… shall we say… insular, and behind the times. Let’s show we aren’t so gullible to fall for a lying millionaire joker, and look at party records and achievements instead.
Let’s stick with our high achieving MP. Island’s Member of Parliament since17, he said he would get the Isle of Wight a better deal. He has worked tirelessly with organisations on the Isle of Wight, the Isle of Wight Council, as well as the Government to do so.Contrast this with Richard Quigley’s report on the IWC website where he admits almost total failure to achieve any improvements in public services after 2 years in office.
You should get a job with The Daily Express. Just the sort of biased, uninformed claptrap they come out with.
no wasp star – you are just the sort of clown we are fed up with – men who think they are women do not belong in womens spaces.
Yeah, of course, that’s exactly what I think you right wing dullard. Stick your pathetic culture wars and go watch GB News to reinforce your backwards thinking.
Many women I know are hopping mad that the Tories screwed their retirement by changing their pension terms. Reform UK is fascism by another name. This is the 21st century – surely we have moved on from 1930s politics. I am sure it won’t be long before Reform start telling women that their place is in the home waiting dutifully for their menfolk to return from work and cater for his every need. No woman in her right mind would vote Reform UK.
Yes our WW2 war heroes fought against fascists like these Reform supporters. The conditions of stiffled economy (largely due to 14 years of Tory Austerity), increasingy inequality and struggles (housing, cost of living) are similar to those leading to the rise of fascism in Germany before WW2 .
We have to learn from history, and unite, stand against fascism and racism, call for policies to reverse the immense inequality of wealth. Remember the war heroes, the fight against fascists and the post war achievements of the post war Labour government.
Just goes to show how many brainwashed, deluded fools still think seldom seen seely has done a good job,he has done nothing in the las t 4 years, then pops up like a jack in the box, welcoming this, writing a letter or two,if this charlatan gets back in,he will disappear for the next few years just like he has done, dont be fooled by a lying, self serving tory!
The Country is in an awkward position
Vote Labour = 20mph roads, it’s already happened in Wales and London.
It is due to happen in Scotland.
Starmer is Blair’s puppet.
Also the World Economic Forum rules most Governments
including ours!
Let’s not forget, Rishi was planted in his position by the WEF
NO one voted for him!, people seem to forget that!
Actually, it’s being un-done in Wales and is not now favoured in England.
True that no-one voted for Sunak (or Truss, or Bozo the first time). But what point are you making?
Sunak, Truss and Bozo were elected leader of the party by members of that party, who knew better than us how suitable they were to take on the job.
The party had a majority in the Commons, so the elected leader became the Prime Minister and all the other titles that go with it.
No its not ideal, but its better than having a directly elected president governing from a prison cell
No it isn’t, it is soon being introduced in Scotland.
Starmer also wants to bring forward the BAN on Petrol and Diesel
Vehicles.
The point I am making is Labour will be worse than Conservative.
Gordon Brown wasn’t elected by the public either…
Brown just like Blair have recently been handed high honours.
I thought I read Blair was a War criminal who was responsible for many
mothers and fathers sons dying unnesseccary due to a country having
W.O.M.D and they didn’t have any!
I am never going to vote tory, not with a PM whos net worth is £651,000,000 up £122,000,000 on the previous year, him and his cronies are so out of touch with the working person. And those amounts are NOT typos either. I’m sure he can afford his fuel bills ok, get the food he really enjoys unlike to rest of us.
you speak for yourself irish – some of us work and make money, we are not all poverty stricken, welfare spongers.
