Labour has confirmed its Isle of Wight candidates for the next General Election, with Emily Brothers vying for the East seat and Richard Quigley for the West. Emily Brothers previously stood for Parliament in Sutton and Cheam at the 2015 General Election and for the Greater London Assembly a year later. She is currently a Sandown Town Councillor, Governor with The Cornerstone Federation and is an NHS Governor with Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Surely Islanders see how much happier their younger children are, learning at school all about the religions of others, learning to respect and welcome them to this country, enriching their minds, souls and even their diets?
The gender mixing enlightenment will, once fully embedded in young minds be a benefit to children too. As instead of having to find a boyfriend if a girl, or visa-versa, your children can pair up for life with childhood friends that they have know and have had so much in common with of the same sex.
And if you are worried over not having a grandchild to cuddle, there are plenty of discarded ethnic children in adoption homes from sex workers to adopt, thus helping spread the love and integration of all

Having been asked to join a Community Centre committee I was stunned to be told, in a meeting, that having lived here for 26 years I hadn’t earned the right to even have an opinion, or voice it or offer solutions or ideas!.. So what chance do 2 more ‘overners have of being elected, and bringing up transgender support and a Corbin lover will not enamour them to the more ‘radical’ Islander.. Perhaps Labour should have done some actual research before dropping these two onto us.

Pah – I will be looking to vote for a candidate that represents me – a heterosexual male, which last time I looked are about 45% of the islands residents, with another 45% being heterosexual females. There is no way on the face of this earth, that i will be voting for someone who actively excludes heterosexuals from the acronym LGBTQ – where is the H for heterosexual.

I think they’re pretty well represented. Not sure I’ve ever heard of a hate crime or discrimination of a majority group. And given that men come from women and often have female children, a candidate who ONLY represents het. males is laughable, unworkable and as wrong as a candidate who only focuses on LGBTQ. EQUAL rights…equal, regardless of gender, orientation, ability, net worth, class. All parties (allegedly) promote equality, so I take it you won’t be voting at all?

Joe, if you think it about it, and I mean ‘think’ about it not ‘react’ about it, there should be no need to include H in the LGBTQ tag. These groups have been marginalised and ‘othered’ for decades and had to have the signifiers attached to their specifics to highlight their gender/sexual orientation. In an ideal world none of this would be necessary. People are people are people. It’s a shame on the rest of society that we have to put a name or handle on something that shouldn’t need one. Why not just let people be? We have legislation and policies to protect and include everyone. That is a good thing but also a pity we need to have them in the first place.

What a joke for candidates from the two main parties! Whoever stands for The Raving Looney Monster Party will get my vote as they will probably do a much better job of representing the Island’s needs. If there isn’t a candidate from my choice I will do as I think a lot of voters will do and stay at home.
I wish them both good luck, it will be good to have both sexes points of views in future discussions and the fact they live on the Island is a bonus. I await the literature through the door from all those intending to stand in the next General Election and will make my mind up then. I know the one party I will not be voting for due to having had experience of them in the last 14 years and watching society deteriorate further and further backwards in their thinking.

Instead of low waged working people getting tax credits, companies should pay higher wages and claim the uplift in ‘wages credits’. Shift the stigma of claiming onto the employer not the employee. That’d look good wouldn’t it? Half of Britain’s business in benefits. World class.

Rightly or wrongly, it seems to me that Labour has given up all hope of having an Isle of Wight MP.
They surely know the demographic of the Island and that at least one of these potential candidates is a complete no-hoper as far as being elected here goes. I honestly think you’d struggle to name many other constituencies in the UK so unsuitable to offer one of these candidates for election, so why would Labour do it?
The Island is renowned for its predominately elderly, conservative leaning, middle class population who clearly have little or no connection with a candidate such as this. For many, it’s going to mean vote Tory or don’t vote.
Unless, of course, votes for Reform upset the apple-cart?
