Parliamentary candidate for Isle of Wight West, Bob Seely, has welcomed Rishi Sunak’s plan for a legally binding cap on immigration to bring numbers down to much lower levels.
Bob, who is the Conservative candidate for the new Isle of Wight West constituency, introduced a Private Member’s Bill on Immigration and Asylum law 2 weeks ago, before Parliament dissolved. Bob said that he believed a cap was the only way to permanently get the number of legal migrants and refugees down. Now, Under Rishi Sunak’s plans, ministers will suggest a new cap on migration that will then be subject to a vote in Parliament – giving MPs direct control of immigration levels for the first time. Bob has said:
“I’m delighted Rishi has adopted this approach, I believe there is only one way to get a grip on this problem – and that’s for MPs to own it. “We need to get migration down. We know Labour and the Liberal Democrats will have an open-door policy to migration, and we know that a vote for Reform puts Starmer in Downing Street.”
The Conservatives say under their plan they will: • Implement an annual legal cap on the number of visas that can be granted to those coming to the UK on work or family routes, taking into account public services and the economy. Temporary work routes such as Seasonal Agricultural Workers, would not fall within the cap as these are very short-term visas. Students will also not fall within the cap. • Commission the Migration Advisory Committee to make an annual recommendation to government on the level of the immigration cap, with an explicit remit to take into account the economic costs and benefits of migration to make sure the economy gets the workers it needs, whilst the NHS and housing is not overwhelmed. Government will then consider the Committee’s recommendation before making a final proposal. • Bring an annual vote to Parliament to set the immigration cap, giving Parliament a direct role in setting immigration levels for the first time. Government will put its proposed level, informed by the MAC, to a vote in Parliament annually so MPs can vote on the annual level, giving Parliament a direct role in setting the level of immigration for the first time.

You can tell when an mp is lying, they open their mouths, as for immigration sunak and his buddies have done nothing to stem the invasion of illegal immigrants into our country, just for clarity if anyone tries to enter any country by circumventing border controls IT IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE.
The legislation referred to in the article has nothing to do with illegal migration. It is about limiting legal migration. Not sure how these people thing the hospitals are going to operate and farmers get their crops picked without legal migrant workers but what does a few fields of rotten crops and a few wards of dead people matter when there is a scare monger vote catcher card to play
Perhaps young British people, instead of being paid a full wage, made up by tax credits, now universal credit, IF they did not have free rent and council tax, just by having a child, would work as they once had to, IF so much wasn’t given to them.
Then, with a social security system made far more stringent, the lure for foreign workers would not be a magnet to small craft.
After all they don’t come for our benefit, nor our weather, but they know, after being ‘accepted’ they too can join the British public and ‘use’ the system as we ALL have the same rights, so to not do so, would imply they are less intelligent which they are not.
Many first generation work, but look at their offspring in inner cities, it will happen here.
I have lost all trust in politicians, they say what they think you want to hear and then do the exact opposite, just crooks with a suit
Nobody takes you crooks serious anymore VOTE REFORM
Yes we certainly need to rethink, for Labour will give an amnesty to all the illegals and then allow in ever more knowing that if they eventually vote, it will be likely for them
Tories have proven they have no real intention of cutting the numbers in meaningful terms, as they would have done so by now.
So REFORM it is, whilst they won’t get in power here, they may join up with another party which would be good, as their influence would aid addressing the immigration problem, and the party they join would likely have more experience in other matters, so a win win.
Vote REFORM or your children will pay one heck of a price for your gullible stance.

But they’re supposedly politicians as well. We were all told the truth about Brexit by Farage! I don’t think
We were told the truth by Farage. Unfortunately, he had no say into how Brexit was implemented. The problem was that over 70% of the elected MP did not want to leave the EU. Now they have to actually work instead of rubber stamping EU laws. They tried every way to fool us into believing that they were carrying out the order given to them as a result of a lawful referendum it took May 2 years to even invoke Article 50 to give notice that were were leaving the EU. She tried to turn us into a vassal state of the EU but her plan backfired, They even left part of the UK at the mercy of Brussels and even lied about that. Our fishing grounds were opened up to the EU fleet by that fool Boris for nothing in return. Don’t blame Farage – blame UK poli
Vote Reform? A party run by the guy who ensured his kids were registered as dual UK/German citizens before Brexit was done. His kids can go live in Europe at any time. Mine can’t. One rule for one. One rule for another.
Seems you weren’t smart enough to do it in time and now you’re jealous that he was.
Vote reform ? Really ? You mean the brexit party with fararge don’t you ?,well, brexit did us loads of good didn’t it ha ha ha
How odd that this wasn’t suggested once during the last 14 years. We obviously can’t believe a word they say. Just remember how atrocious this government has been for 14 years. An absolute shambles.
Surely not. I thought we were all this together. I’m sure most politicians have had to resort to using food banks in the last few years (where there were practically none 14 years ago). They’ve helped spread poverty wider and further than any of their predecessor’s.
Then Bob Seely must find out why the IOW Council vote 4-3 to allow 22 illegal and unvetted immigrants to be put into a discontinued residential home in Ventnor. Have they not see what has happened in the areas they have been arbitrarily put across London and the UK? Is this what Ventnor, an acknowleged poor economic area, and having to face the possibility of being cut off from the rest of the Island, have to put up with? And this is just the tip of that iceberg. I guess it’s because of the government money to bolster their lack of funds is where their heart is. Election coming up, Bob. You have to do something, or lose your seat.
What a load of bullsh1t lies. At no point will that property take any ‘illegals’ as you call it.
Lies. Just how will they prevent the daily onslaught arriving IF they can’t now?
So IF. they can prevent such then why haven’t they?
Vote reform even if only to show our distrust of their policies.
Labour will make it even worse.
Reform is our only hope now.
Why will labour make it worse? At least they don’t lie on tv!
If Reform is your only hope, you have no hope.
Strange how some people want to jump on the Reform band-wagon based on an idealised and wrong-headed notion of what they stand for. Reform’s policies differ little from those of the Tories, except they want to abolish inheritance tax, scrap planning laws, and privatise the NHS, which all suit the wealthy suits who run this “party”. All parties want to regulate immigration to a reasonable level. However, Reform is the only party that provides no details of how they will regulate immigration. This is because all of their policies are clueless hand waving and they are just trying to whip up xenophobia. Reform is the National Front combined with the Monster Raving Looney party.
Sunak is just pulling policies out of the air. Be more sensible to have a cap on how much the country spends to support immigration, so more economical solutions have to be devised.
Pop up Bob is popping up alot now there’s an election on its way. The problem we have Bob is that we all want capped immigration. It would be nice to know who’s coming in the country, instead of people just washing up on the beaches. However, our biggest problem is, your party have been in power for 14 years. Each and every prime minister has promised to bring it down and they’ve all failed. Now the country has been invaded and it’s all to late. I really do hope that come next month we see even less of your smug face.
They’ve had 14 years to do that. Why is it only a good idea now?
Desperate electioneering
Why didn’t they do it years ago. Too late now!!!
Enoch Powell tried to tell the dim shits 50 years ago, and he got the sack for it. Say the truth you get the sack, talk bullshit and lies, you get a Knighthood
Totally a numpty done nothing for our island.
Just crawl back under your rock ‘Mr Seeley’.
You haven’t done ANYTHING beneficial for Island residents (and Council Tax PAYERS) for the an absolute age, but..now, when the Tories are facing annihilation, you repeatedly are in the News!
Just go and crawl back under your rock and leave us all alone like you have done for te past years!!!
What a load of rubbish, since over ready Brexit
we have been bombarded with migrants entering the UK
The English Chanel is busier now than D Day
How come the Tories have doubled immigration then?
I saw one in Newport the other day! We need a strong and stable Government to get us out of this mess!
One what? A Bob Seely perhaps? Or are you just being a racist bigot? Grow up.
The Tories have had 14 years (and numerous leaders) to do this.
What will be so different now?
Does it mean Bob supports a cap on main landers coming to the island and buying up all the houses that are needed by islanders if so carry on the good work perhaps we should have what Nigel has suggested a 0 cap
VOTE REFORM, time to get rid of Blob Silly Seely
Vote for Farage who ensured his kids can live in Europe when none of the rest of us can. Fairs fair old chap……oh no it isn’t.
At least we’d all get free banana milkshake I suppose.
Sunak is the biggest threat to this country since Hitler. Seely and his cohorts are finished, they will end up a third or even fourth rate party, and I for one “Welcome this” as Bungling Bob would say. Sunak lied countless times on TV and comes across as an arrogant, nasty and self important little man. Good riddance to him, his party and Bob Seely.
He needs to remind the French authorities why we are paying them a lot of money to prevent the boats from leaving.
I appreciate the geographical complications but when footage is shown of them watching and dare I say possibly assisting the launches it proves they don’t care a jot.
And why would they! When the UK voted Leave we are no longer part of the EU. France has no obligation to do anything at all.
The Tories betrayed us telling us they were Conservatives. They lied to us to get elected then they betrayed us over Net Zero – set to bankrupt the UK, they betrayed us over immigration, both legal and illegal, they betrayed us over tax – now the highest for 70 years, they betrayed us over Brexit – trying every which-way to avoid leaving the EU , they betrayed us over remaining in the ECHR. They betrayed us over 2 tier policing. They even betrayed the motorist with Excise duty and VAT more than 50% of the cost of fuel and they betrayed us with an ill thought out new Highway Code which allows cyclists to ride 2,3, or 4 abreast blocking the flow of traffic. Labour will be as bad or maybe worse. Our only hope is Reform UK
All lies too late Labour will get more over so they keep them in power ..just you see look at Kahn in london..all muslim influence he’ll get in again in 4 years wait and see..
What plan? There IS no plan. Tories have had 14 years to put a stop to this unlawful smuggling. They will be annihilated come the election.
This country has been going down the toilet for decades, neither labour or conservative have done a great job of running the place, and so in fairness neither of them will get my vote, they don’t deserve it.
The joke that just will not go away .. will this Tory boy ever learn .. the majority of the population on the island believe you are totally untrustworthy.. as you have shown so many times, but that’s is a prerequisite of being a member of parliament.. but now is time for change …
It has always been difficult (and expensive) to enter the UK as a legal immigrant. Now the government are proposing to make it even more difficult for people who want to make their home here, assimilate, work and contribute to society whilst doing nothing to stop those who want to enter illegally. The people traffickers will be rubbing their hands with glee. ‘Protect the NHS’? The NHS relies on immigrants, as do many other sectors. Pure electioneering and pandering to the vocal bigots.
