Prison officers at HMP Isle of Wight have brought about a peaceful end to a volatile situation after 2 prisoners barricaded themselves inside a cell within the walls of Albany prison last night (Tuesday).
Emergency protocols were activated and extra staff drafted in to deal with the incident, which is understood to have begun at around 18:00.
It is understood the 2 unnamed prisoners managed to barricade themselves in a cell, however, after a ‘short period’ of speaking with guards they gave up peacefully.
The prison service’s ‘Tornado’ team were not required to attend.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice has told Island Echo:
“Staff successfully resolved an incident involving two prisoners at HMP Isle of Wight yesterday, without physical intervention.”
