Playing on the penny pushers in the arcade or getting drunk at Colonel Bogey’s are well and truly memories now as Sandown’s Wight City complex has finally been demolished.
Work begun back in January to bring the derelict building to the ground following its closure back in 2012.
Nothing but a pile of rubble now remains of the once-popular club and the adjoining holiday apartments at Culver Parade overlooking Sandown Bay.
Once the site is completely cleared work is expected to begin on the 47 residential dwellings and flexible commercial floor space, which were given planning approval at the start of last month.
An initial planning application was approved by the Isle of Wight Council in December 2014. However, the land was sold for £1.8million in January 2017 before a fresh planning application was lodged in June of last year.
