Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and Freshwater Independent Lifeboat have been involved in an operation to inspect and salvage a small boat that has washed ashore on the South Wight coast today (Saturday).
Coastguard officers were called to Binnel Bay near St Lawrence this morning after a 14ft green and white boat ‘BIDULE’ washed ashore, becoming lodged between the rocks.
Island Echo understands the French-registered vessel has drifted across the English Channel from Cap De La Hague after 2 persons were rescued off the French coast earlier this week.
Freshwater Independent Lifeboat has attempted to salvage the shipwrecked boat, however the volunteer crew have deemed it too dangerous. With no risk to life, the lifeboat has stood down and returned to station.
It is thought Bembridge RNLI were tasked to search the area at shortly before midday, but were stood down when the circumstances of the vessel’s appearance were confirmed.
Navigational warnings have been issued to mariners using the English Channel, however, with the boat stuck fast there is no longer a danger to shipping.
The vessel remains in situ. There is no access to the area.
