Firefighters from Ryde responded to reports of persons trapped inside a car following a road traffic collision in the town – but the scene wasn’t quite as expected.
2 appliances were mobilised to Quarry Road at around 17:30 this evening (Friday) following a 999 call to control reporting a road traffic collision.
Fearing the worst, Ryde’s day crew appliance responded the short distance to the scene. However, before the second, retained appliance could arrive at the incident it was ascertained that no persons were trapped and the pump was stood down.
It appears that a family car grounded out after manoeuvring onto and overshooting a driveway, with the vehicle half off the carriageway across the pavement.
The information reported to the emergency services didn’t quite match the incident at hand, as was the case when fire crews were mobilised to St John’s Road in Shanklin this afternoon.
Firefighters have assisted with stabilising the vehicle and raising it back level and onto the road.
Although Police were on scene, their involvement was not required.

People are so pathetic nowadays! Can’t park properly? No problem, call all the emergency services. Snowflakes!
JEEZ- what is wrong with these effing people. Put the car in reverse and “un-ground” it –after taking the 50 tonne of crap they probably had in the car and all of them out, apart from the driver and lo and behold, it would have enough clearance to drive back to a level again.
idiots
Shocking that someone rang emergency services
They should be made to pay the cost, and forced to take another driving test
More bad parking on the Island
What a complete waste of public money, people don’t sort or take responsibility for anything these days!
Eye sight test required!
I’m surprised the expert hasn’t put their point across yet
