The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service remain in attendance at the scene of a barn fire on the outskirts of Ryde this morning (Friday).
Smoke has been billowing into the sky throughout the night and into this morning as the remnants of 800 hay bales continue to smoulder.
As previously reported by Island Echo, 4 fire appliances, 2 water carriers, the Incident Support Unit and the Incident Command Unit were all called to Gatehouse Road at Upton at around 15:00 yesterday afternoon. Several 999 calls were received reporting the barn to be well-alight.
Farm machinery had been used to pull out and spread as much hay as possible, but concerns over the barn’s structure means the rest of the hay must be left to burn itself out.
Crews from Newport, Ryde, East Cowes, Cowes, Sandown and Shanklin have taken it in turns to monitor the situation overnight. Just 1 appliance from Ryde now remains on scene as the incidnet is scaled back.
An 18-year-old man from Ryde and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of arson yesterday. They have since been released from custody, but remain under investigation.
Investigations continue.

Put these retards in the army for 10 years.

Flog the useless shits .
Kids bored innit. no rink of ice now. pay more child allowance so kids can afford to do stuff. boring place to live here wiv not money to spend.
There are beaches, wildlife parks, nature walks, free clubs and groups for children and young adults on the island and of course play with your children ! Why does everything have to come back to handouts…. and there is plenty of work on the island can always pay for your children’s entertainment…. that’s a novel idea
