A firearm and 2 knives have been seized by Armed Police following the arrest of a 24-year-old man in East Cowes, who has been detained on suspicion of false imprisonment.
At just gone 09:00 this morning, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary received a call that sparked concerns for the welfare of the occupants of an address at Verdon House on Kent Avenue.
Armed Response Officers from the mainland were hurried across the Solent to join local colleagues before descending on East Cowes, surrounding a block of flats, as first reported by Island Echo. They also surrounded a Mercedes-Benz car, from which 2 knives were later seized.
Island Echo can now also reveal that a firearm – described as a plastic BB gun – has also been recovered by Police and taken away for forensic analysis.
Police have confirmed that a 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and drug driving. He remains in custody at this time.
It is thought that 2 others are being sought.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says that enquiries are in the early stages with officers working to establish the exact circumstances of what has occurred during this incident.
The immediate response to the incident has now been stood down.
