A concerned woman from Lake called the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service last night (Thursday) when her laptop battery started to expand.
At 22:17 the local resident got in touch with Island Echo to seek advice on a non-urgent contact number for the fire service knowing that she needed assistance but that it wasn’t life-threatening.
By 22:25 she had got in touch with fire control, who arranged for a Hazmat officer to call to give advice.
After detailed discussion, the woman was advised to place the very swollen lithium battery outside and monitor for any change in next few days.
