EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: A woman who walked down a slipway and started waving at passing boats was close to drowning last night (Friday) when she lost her footing and slipped into the sea at Cowes.
Whilst waiting for the annual Cowes Week fireworks to begin, the young woman walked down the slipway next to Cowes RNLI lifeboat station before waving at passing boats.
Dramatic footage, contributed to Island Echo, shows the moment the woman turns around to head back ashore before losing her footing and slipping into the sea, almost going under.
Amazingly, despite being inebriated, the female managed to stay afloat and used backstroke to swim to safety.
Lifeboat crewmen from Calshot RNLI, who were on shore close to the incident, were summoned by members of the public and swiftly went to the female’s aid.
Just 4 days ago the RNLI issued vital safety advice on how to survive an unexpected fall into water. The life-saving charity are reminding people to ‘Respect the Water’ this Summer.
