A driver has fled the scene of a crash after ploughing into a parked car on Alexandra Road in Ryde tonight (Friday).
A Vauxhall Insignia has smashed into a parked Renault Captur and rolled over, coming to rest back on all 4 wheels facing the opposite direction.
Police were called to the collision near Gassiott Green shortly before 22:45, but by the time they arrived the driver had fled.
A local area search is now underway.
Island Echo understands the Insignia was travelling towards St John’s Hill when it collided with the rear quarter of the Renault, spinning the vehicle around and into a boundary wall. The Vauxhall then rolled onto its roof before coming back down on all 4 wheels, leaving debris scattered across the carriageway.
It’s unknown at this time why the driver – and their passenger – failed to stop at the scene.
The road is currently blocked with local diversions in place. Recovery has been arranged and the road will re-open once complete.
UPDATE SATURDAY – 2 men have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Another drunk or drug driver who thinks he can run away… Muppet
He literally went back for his phone and charger and walked off!! They police got them pretty quick tho
Has the owner reported stolen yet. Must be home by now. 🙂
i wonder if that had anything to do with the 2 police cars and van further along the road just after carlto road junction around the same time.
Only someone with a guilty conscience would flee the scene of a crash…. Just saying. I think it’s fair to say most of us reading this story could make a good guess at what was the underlying cause of this crash. Also, cars seem to have become very easy to roll in recent times! Not something I’ve ever done, I hasten to add, but I’ve always thought modern cars are designed to be very difficult to land them on their roof’s…
I feel so sorry for the people whos car has been hit. Morons like this should have their license taken away for years, then have to take a retest. Probably drunk or drugged up. Complete, irresponsible idiot.
Must have had their sunglasses on not to see the rear of a parked car.
Another one?
Getting to be a daily event.
There’s plenty more drivers like this one on our roads, it’s becoming more often these days….
Sadly my car was the victim…both lads walked off like nothing had happened..which in whatever world they were in it probably hadn’t happened!!! Luckily there were fantastic people who took photos and video who I am very grateful too…just a shame that now we are the ones who have lost out!!!
