Isle of Wight East parliamentary candidate Joe Robertson was joined on the campaign trail by Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones last week as they visited high street shops to hear about the growing problem of shoplifting and abuse directed at retail staff. Joe has made tackling anti-social behaviour one of his top 5 priorities if he is elected MP and says he will work with residents, businesses and local police to crack down on crime. He wants to see better use of technology and proactive engagement from the police. The Conservative hopeful has said:
“Regeneration of our towns relies on cracking down on anti-social behaviour. Unfortunately the local “shop watch” in Sandown has wound down but I will get it up and running again so local businesses and the police can work better together, backed by me as the new MP for East Wight if I get elected.”
Joe went on to say:
“We need monitored CCTV coverage in our main towns. I am calling on the new Ryde Town Board to set aside some of the Government’s £20 million funding for Ryde to install modern CCTV across the centre of town. If the Town Board uses the Government money available for CCTV infrastructure, I have secured a commitment from Donna Jones to integrate the CCTV into the Police’s central command centre with no ongoing cost residents. Then the police will be able to react to incidents in real time and combat crime more effectively. I will support all our East Wight towns to bid for funding to get comprehensive CCTV installed.”
Donna Jones previously announced that the front desk at Ryde police station will reopen to the public later this year.

The first time the team had played a match was when they won a match in which they won
There’s something unhealthy about this close relationship between Police Commissioner and Conservative pollitics. Almost south American.
Totally agree. I thought the police were independent of party politics and not allowed to be members of political party’s.
The police and crime commissioner is meant to be non-political.
And is anti-social behaviour really the cause of degeneration in towns? Or is it because of councils keep jacking up parking fees and any other costs applicable to businesses, leading to inability for businesses to compete with online retailers?
The cause of the problem is drugs. What are these Tories going to do about drugs?
Give more licenses to thier friends to grow more and make more money while telling everyone the pharmas are good for you but the weed is bad.
Don’t ask Gove…
He’s been skiing with his nose.
From what I have read over the years on National news, most
Tory politicians smoke the stuff.
Elected as a Tory, has done nothing of note in her time as PCC, now supporting Tory candidate. Obviously no attempt to control images appearing in local media. All in all a bit of a disaster.
The Police and rime Commissioner is not non-political if you elect one backed by a political party which is what the 16% of Islanders who bothered to vote did. I believe that the role should be non-party political but a change to the arrangeents for choosing PCCs would be required to achieve this. Perhaps 12 years on from the introduction of the role it is time for a review of their effectiveness which could include how they are elected.
Mama Cass was a great comparison. I wonder if she can sing?
I wonder if she could choke on a sandwich.
Not Political at all .. totally impartial… for those who voted for the PCC working for the CONS and not the public .. you have been fooled .. for the next 4 years !! As well
Pity only 16% of Islanders bothered to vote in the PCC election. You get what those who vote elect.
Despite all negative news being as suppressed as is feasible, the West is finally, albeit too late, waking up to the serious problems that a ‘never ending’ in the true sense of the words, flotilla of people, arriving without anything. Causing for its people, serious problems with housing, health care, serious crime, drugs, overcrowding, costly one to one educational needs for the multitude of languages, religious intolerances amongst themselves and the additional, unbearable strain on on water, sewage, energy supply, landfill, food and our ‘way of life’
Leaders who have sold out the indigenous, to deliberately flood countries with people with totally different values in Europe are counting the cost, lets hope we see the light
Russian troll alert.
Hahahaha
The Isle of White is all right. No immigRants ere..they all breed with one another down here. Plus DFLs flood this land causing a strain on health and social care.
.
That would be the Conservatives for the last 14 years then…
Looks like that they will be soon bursting into song singing Y. M. C. A
Why is the Police Crime Commissioner hanging around with the Conservatives, I thought that she was meant to be neutral.?
Will she also be going out with the Reform UK candidate to find out the growing problem with illegal immigrants, and learn how 98% of islanders feel about rainbows being constantly pushed upon them.?
“Why is the Police Crime Commissioner hanging around with the Conservatives, I thought that she was meant to be neutral.?”
if you remember the elections a month or so back for the PCC,.. each candidate was affiliated with a policial party,… Donna Jones is CONservative,.. what ever may you think they were supposed to be neutral ??
No, of course she won’t be campaigning with the (so called) reform party.
The PCC is expected to be politically neutral even if elected on a party political ticket. She is expected to treat all members of the community in an equal and fair manner. Going walkabout with the Tory candidate is a bad look and not befitting of the office.
Bothered by a rainbow?!
What a snowflake! Get a grip son.
He’s obsessed
Why do you think she is neutral. She was elected as a Conservative PCC by those who bothered to vote
Reform are making big advances and are a credible threat to both the main parties. If you want things to change, change who you vote for, same old party IS same old detritus, and whatever else they can think of to ruin the island in the coming years.
Reform are the party of absolute dictatorship.
Ask yourself how Farage took over without a vote?
They will do the same to your right to vote if they ever get any power.
Did anyone vote for Sunak.? Did anyone vote for Truss.? Did anyone vote for Charlie to rule the palace.?
Not for Charlie, but Conservatives’ party members definitely voted for both Truss & Sunak to lead their party and thus become Prime Minister.
On a national news web site: “A Reform UK candidate has claimed that the country would be “far better” if it had “taken Hitler up on his offer of neutrality” instead of fighting the Nazis in World War Two.”
Think that absolutely shows their true colours!
Two utter waste of space desperados.
Nothing but actors in the Political game .. don’t let your expectations be fooled by these .. pantomime actors ..
If you want to get rid of anti social behavior, get rid of the lowlife and their feril brats that is causing it. tag both and put curfews on them. If the government can fine people for not getting their cat micro chipped, they can fine parents for not getting their feril brats tagged.
Not a good look is it Donna
Why is Joe Robertson not bring Donna to Sandown, Lake and Shanklin – Which is his biggest conurbanisation, and many would argue has bigger issues than Ryde?
Is it because he has good news for Ryde? Is he ashamed to be associated with Sandown?
Lots of empty hotels in Prime locations screaming out for redevelopment into Police Stations in Sandown?
come on Joe… Stop using Ryde to woo the great and the good. Show them you are proud of Sandown too.
Don’t vote tory east or west Wight, enough damage has been done to the environment on and around the island. They don’t care about anything here. Take a look at this. Some interesting details on how sausage bob voted for many many issues. https://www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/25645/bob_seely/isle_of_wight/votes
Thanks for the link I have just looked at it .. and yes Tory Boy Pop Up Seely needs to go .. clearly in it for himself and not the islanders.. please have read before you vote for him in the West Wight Make the Isle of Wight great again .. keep the Con-Tories out
Well I proudly sent my voting card back to sender today. They can roll it and smoke it for all I care. No vote is definitely not a wasted vote.
So if you don’t vote, then you loose your right to complain. There will be plenty to complain about when Labour get in.
Id rather vote for micky mouse than any conservative
less crap gets pumped in to our sea than what dribbles out of all conservatives mouths
They look like a load of cyclists riding side by side holding each others hands
making it awkward for pedestrians to pass.
Walk single file.
I’m just trying my luck with this and it doesn’t matter how hard you are I know I have the same problems and it’s just hard because you don’t even understand
Who in the East Wight is even contemplating voting Robertson? A crooked party stooge who will do nothing for the Island, as has been evidenced by the past fourteen years!
