The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming General Election is just days away – so act now to ensure your voice is heard.
Islanders have until 23:59 on Tuesday (18th June) to register, meaning you have just over 48 hours left to take action ahead of the election on 4th July.
Whether you intend to vote in person, by post or by proxy, you must register at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. It only takes a few minutes but you will need your National Insurance number to hand.
If you have recently changed your address or name, you will need to re-register with your most up-to-date details. You will receive a polling card to your address to state where you can vote. Polling station information is also available at www.isleofwight.vote.
To register, you must be aged 16 or over and be a British citizen. You must be 18 to cast your vote on polling day. There are other circumstances in which you can register, which can be found on the registration page.
If you’re a student, you can be registered at both your accommodation and back home here on the Isle of Wight. However, you are only permitted to vote once. If you wish to complete a postal vote, the application deadline is 17:00 on Wednesday (19th June). For those wishing to apply for a proxy vote, the deadline is 17:00 on 26th June. Remember, you will need to show photo ID at the polling station on 4th July. The stations will open at 07:00 on 4th July and close at 22:00 that night, with the results for Isle of Wight East and Isle of Wight West expected during the early hours of Friday 5th July.

If you’re a student, you can be registered at both your accommodation and back home here on the Isle of Wight. However, you are only permitted to vote once. So if every student ,around 2milion ,voted twice it wouldn’t be picked up until after the count and winner announced!. Kinder could skew thing’s a little. Winning party are not going to then order recount or punish double voters as they may well then loose. No one can answer why photo ID ? ,if you have voting card in you’re name you can only use once and at your polling station anyhow. Good luck, anyhow hopefully Biden will get back in with my vote,don’t want Trump.
How do you check if you’re registered? Not had my card. Had one for the police electing thingy. No idea if I am registered. Can’t check. Googled and can’t find an explanation.

Thanks mate, I’ve called them. All good. They told me as I got the card for that police election and voted in it, I am on the list and can vote. 🙂
