The Isle of Wight Council’s Trading Standards team is understood to have seized more than 400 vapes from shops across the Island – but the local authority is remaining tight-lipped about the situation. Island Echo is told that during the month of January, officials visited a number of local convenience stores accompanied by officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary. It’s believed that around 450 vapes were seized as part of an ongoing investigation. It’s thought the devices did not meet UK specifications. The local authority has refused to reveal any details about the operation, including whether or not items have been seized and where from. However, it is known that the removal of vapes occurred in The Bay area, and elsewhere on the Island. A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council has said:
“As this matter is currently under investigation, we are not in a position to provide a statement at this time”.
Police have confirmed that officers accompanied Trading Standards when seizing the goods.
