Getting married, holding a funeral or being cremated on the Isle of Wight has just got more expensive. The Isle of Wight Council has increased the prices of its registrar services as well as cremations, burials and memorials, by roughly 6% — which it says is in line with inflation. Overall, the hikes, which came into effect on 1st April, will make the authority an extra £137,000 a year. Getting married or having a civil partnership will now cost between £560 and £665, depending on the day the ceremony is held — up from between £520 and £625. However, the cost of doing so at the council’s offices at Seaclose, in Newport, has stayed the same at £150. The cost of registering premises as a licenced venue for marriages and civil partnerships has risen to £2,270, up by £125. At the Isle of Wight Crematorium in Whippingham, the fee for a 25-minute adult single service will now cost £1,259, an increase of £90. The price of a direct cremation, with no service and no attendees, has gone up by £39 to £689. The online streaming of a cremation service has also increased to £70. Adult burials have risen to £1,629, the cost of a full grave space is now £1,143 and the fee for a headstone is either £211 or £436 depending on the size. The full lists of prices are available on the council’s website.

That won’t even offset a fraction of the incompetant waste of money by C.H in the last 6 months. The IOW Council, one of a few councils in the UK to target and hurt it’s own people.
This council and jerk jordan really are the lowest of the low aren’t they. What’s next a rural air tax to breathe in cleaner air than the fume infected towns. Fix the bloody potholes all over the roads, fix the drainage and put some money into making the island decent again you bunch of idiots.
There is another economy I am forced to make. I am going to make sure I don’t die.
Alternatively here’s my tip. If you are feeling like your time is very nearly up:
1. Buy trestle table & rope & spade
2. Go to countryside
3. Dig hole & pile earth on trestle table
4. Tie rope from yourself to trestle table
5. Stand by edge of hole. Wait.
6. Leave this mortal coil, skilfully falling in hole as you do so.
7. This should tip over the table, and the earth falls on top of you.
No safety mechanism in case you just fall asleep while waiting? Maybe tie the rope around your neck as a fail-safe.
Shameful to stoop this low to raise fees this much, just goes to show the real councils colours
Twats ..so much for 5% council hike..
So from Wedding nuptials conception to death, and everything in between they tax working people. But a huge percentage of it, (And I know some is genuine) is wasted on the alleged mental, fake illness, fake disabled, illegal beings, fake single parents who never sleep alone, cheating unemployed but still working, self inflicted drunkards, druggies, and most on those not using free contraception thus forcing those working to then pay for the rest of time for their wombs content, to do the same as the Muver, from puberty onwards.
Still to see all the grateful pleasant people enjoying their lives free from work, to stay in warm state funded homes, or on the beach all day in the Summer almost makes our sacrifice for them worth it.
Most. Most are genuine. More than can be said of the corporations taking your money but never paying tax. And that, apparently, is legal, and the sums involved far, far greater. Curious as to why you’re not bothered with that? Not such an easy target perhaps?
Pointing finger alert. This council, in case you haven’t noticed are the most inept, stupid and on the take council, they are never investigated about anything, and by most of your idiotic comments here, you must either be A) a council employee B) related to a council employee or C) gullible, I think C is the most likely. Do you ever see the real world outside of your cotton wool existence. Judging by your comments, no.
Which other councils are your comparisons? Most? By which ranking list? Do you think they are never investigated because there’s nothing to actually investigate? Do you think if there was there might be uproar? I’d agree there have been some shady handshakes in terms of deals done (like FB6) but the general things like ^^ this are voted on, cross party. As for ABC…none of the above, and I appear to be one of the very few on here who do actually know how the world, finance, politics, law, governance and social systems work. I’m neither specifically left or right. I won’t post anything online without fact-checks from original source documents. If it’s an opinion, I’ll state ‘I think’. Fact: 0.7% benefit fraud, 2% DWP error, 97.3% other.
Most are genuine you are having a laugh. The great majority don’t know what it’s like to work for a living instead they have a degree in how to get most benefits available and their contribution to society is the next generation of scroungers
The difference – and it really shouldn’t be necessary to have to point this out – is that you have a CHOICE whether to buy from a particular corporation, company or whatever.
People who are working DON’T have a choice about funding others who choose to stay at home and live a life on benefits.
But, I guess you knew that already and, as with most of your posts, are simply looking for a reaction.
As an aside, I really wish the Echo would offer a BLOCK feature where you can choose to not show any comments from a particular IP address.
Did you choose the company who supplies you with water Catherine? What about your postal service? Do you buy from Amazon and are happy to know they pay NO tax into UK?
As business taxes form the lions share of total tax pot which should be available for our necessary services, the rest from working individuals does it not bother you that a) tax NOT paid by corporations is higher than what is spent on UC claimants, SEN children and Social care combined and b) if you’re not bothered by it you don’t have the right to cast aspersions at the poorest for being poor because the money taken from workers isn’t enough to go around. And you’re damned right I’m looking for reaction, most people appear to be asleep.
Utter scum feeding of grieving families
Just another corrupt Government run organisation.
No problem, I am going click and collect!!!!!
You have already ripped me off enough ……
From the cradle to the grave….
Well at least I can save a few bob ……
So not only are the local council making sure we cannot afford to live they are making certain we cannot afford to die either. Great. We all are going to live forever and continue to pay taxes.
Go to church to get married and save yourself some money.
It’s Surprising that it costs so much to die these days, but Not Surprising that the Council is Charging More and most Probably for the Pockets of those at the top!! 😮 Hmmm!!
Oh dear. I don’t think I can afford to die any more. Shame.
That’s your only response to screwing up the island economy is it? Just keep charging more and giving less to cover the cost of your own incompetence. Grrrr….
It’s completely legal to bury the deceased in your own back garden or private land if it’s big enough, although certain rules apply. But it is free.
