Police have cordoned off a crime scene on a quiet side road in Sandown following a serious incident late last night (Tuesday).
Officers are currently guarding the entrance to an alleyway on Albion Road, which is situated between Albert Street and the High Street.
A gazebo has been erected in a bid to protect vital evidence from the elements and an inner cordon is also in place.
Island Echo understands that the incident began sometime around 23:00, with Police and paramedics rushing to the scene.
Crime scene investigators are expected to arrive in Sandown later this morning as detectives from Newport CID continue to probe the circumstances of the incident.
Hampshire Constabulary is expected to provide a statement in due course.
UPDATE @ 11:49 – A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent following a serious assault on a man in his 50s.
