The National Police Air Service Helicopter is conducting a sweep along the cliff edge in Niton following the discovery of a note earlier on this afternoon (Monday).
Police have raised concerns for the welfare of an individual after a note was found at the entrance to Old Signal House, between Niton and Blackgang, at around midday.
Officers on the ground are carrying out enquiries in the area with the support of their NPAS colleagues from Bournemouth.
Nothing untoward has been found at this time.
UPDATE @ 14:30 – Both Ventnor and The Needles Coastguard Rescue Teams have now been tasked to assist Police with a search of the area.
It’s understood that Police are looking for a male.
Emergency teams were called to a similar situation in Ventnor at the end of May.
UPDATE – Nothing untoward was found during the search, which has now been stood down.
