Jila Miah from Newport’s Tamarind Restaurant has been named Bangladesh Caterers Association’s Chef of the Year for the whole of the South East.

BCA announced the regional winners of its Chef of the Year Awards at the O2 Arena in London last Sunday (7th November), recognising a total of 11 talented chefs from across the country for their innovation, presentation, hygiene standards and customer service.

The competing chefs participated in an exciting ‘live-cook off’, wherefrom this live stage the winners were chosen. All of the winners represent the excellence that is happening in Bangladeshi curry houses in the UK, where they have been awarded for their passion, innovative fusion of flavours and blending spices, creating magnificent dishes in their kitchens.

Jila Miah, of Tamarind Restaurant in Newport’s St James’ Street, says:

“Thank you to BCA and our customers! We are super proud to win BCA’s Chef of the Year Award for the South East. We hope that people will come and experience our food; after such a tough time, we need people to support the British Bangladeshi Curry Industry!”
