Residents are being advised of temporary changes to a number of Isle of Wight Council services during this year’s Isle of Wight Festival.
The Isle of Wight Council says it has been working closely with festival organisers and partner agencies to ensure the Island remains safe and running smoothly during the annual event, which takes place between 18th and 22nd June.
While some services will operate differently to support the festival, the authority says essential services will continue and disruption will be kept to a minimum.
Seaclose offices in Newport will close from 12:00 on Thursday 18th June and will reopen on a limited basis from 08:30 on Monday 22nd June, depending on the service required. Full access will resume on Tuesday 23rd June.
Residents are encouraged to visit in person before the festival period only if essential. Temporary parking will be available via the Seaclose Park entrance.
The Register Office will close from midday on Thursday 18th June and remain shut on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th June. Marriage ceremonies will instead take place at County Hall in Newport.
Planning Services, including Building Control, will suspend their Wednesday walk-in session on 17th June. Offices will then close from midday on Thursday until Monday 22nd June, with residents encouraged to use online services instead.
The Coroner’s Office will also be closed to face-to-face appointments between 18th and 22nd June, although telephone enquiries will still be accepted.
1Leisure Medina will operate as normal on Wednesday 17th June, although swimming lessons will not take place. The centre will remain open until 14:00 on Thursday before closing completely from Friday to Sunday. It will reopen from 06:00 on Monday 22nd June, with swimming lessons resuming.
Waste and recycling collections will continue as normal throughout the festival period. Residents are asked to put bins out by 07:00, or 06:30 for properties on Fairlee Road, and ensure containers are easily accessible.
Newport Cemetery access will be restricted to the steps from The Quay, with parking available only for Blue Badge holders.
The Crematorium will remain open as normal.
The Floating Bridge will operate extended hours throughout the festival weekend, with late-night sailings running until after 01:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Anyone wishing to report noise or licensing issues during the festival can contact the council’s dedicated 24-hour complaints line on 01983 823426.
The Isle of Wight Festival takes place at Seaclose Park from Thursday 18th June until Sunday 21st June, with thousands of visitors expected to descend on Newport for the event.
