A driver is being taken to hospital after suffering what is thought to be a medical episode at the wheel of his car, with the vehicle careering into a garden wall in central Ryde.
Police and paramedics are in attendance at Warwick Street, off St John’s Road, where a silver Mercedes A-class has smashed into a brick wall.
Island Echo understands the male driver suffered a medical episode at the wheel shortly after 11:00.
He is now being taken to St Mary’s Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
A young child – who is thought to have been a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the smash – has been checked over and discharged at the scene.
The homeowners have been left ‘shocked’ by the incident.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service deployed an ambulance crew, enhanced care paramedic and an officer to the incident.
Warwick Street is currently blocked to all traffic whilst recovery of the Mercedes is arranged.

Sadly there have been lots of similar accidents recently.
It might be a good idea if the council installed bollards
along many island roads so vehicles do not smash into
properties / gardens (safer for everyone) especially if
pedestrians are walking along at the time an accident
takes place.
precaution is better than cure
I pray the driver is well.
Your a goon..
