A community workshop exploring practical action on climate, nature and resilience is set to take place in Bembridge this weekend.
Residents, businesses, schools, community groups and local organisations are being invited to attend the Community Climate Action Workshop on Saturday (30th May), organised by Bembridge Parish Council in partnership with Community Climate Action (CCA).
The workshop will take place at Bembridge Youth and Community Centre on Steyne Road between 11:00 and 15:00, with an additional screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing being held at the same venue from 10:00.
The event follows growing local discussions around climate resilience, biodiversity and the future of Island communities, including the recent screening in Bembridge of the People’s Emergency Briefing — a national initiative bringing together experts to explain the latest evidence surrounding climate and nature challenges.
At Bembridge’s screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing on 18th April as part of the village’s Environment Awareness Day, attendees were promised a follow-up event. That meeting will now take place on 30th May alongside the Community Climate Action Plan Day.
Rather than focusing purely on the problems, the workshop aims to explore practical local solutions and opportunities for action in areas such as energy, housing, transport, food, biodiversity and community wellbeing.
Attendees will take part in facilitated discussions and activities designed to identify priorities, map community strengths and develop ideas that could help strengthen Bembridge both now and in the future.
Councillor Graham Stoddart-Stones said:
“The recent National Emergency Briefing screening gave many people the opportunity to consider the wider challenges facing society, but also highlighted something important — solutions become meaningful when they are translated into local action.
“Bembridge has a strong sense of community and a remarkable range of skills and experience. This workshop is about bringing people together to discuss practical ideas, identify opportunities and help shape the future of our village.”
The workshop will also bring together what organisers describe as local ‘anchor institutions’, including schools, sports clubs, faith groups, businesses, councils and voluntary organisations.

“Communities already hold many of the ingredients needed to build resilience — local knowledge, trusted relationships, practical skills and people who care deeply about where they live.
“The aim isn’t simply to talk about climate change; it’s to create practical pathways for action that strengthen communities, reduce costs, improve wellbeing and help people feel part of shaping their future.
“We often find that once people come together around shared goals, new ideas and partnerships emerge very quickly.”
Community Climate Action has previously delivered similar workshops with communities, councils and organisations across the UK, helping turn local ideas into practical projects and long-term plans.
Residents interested in attending are encouraged to book in advance via the event’s Facebook page.
And they will all drive there to talk about climate change lol.
